We think Todd Rundgren said it best in 1983: “I don’t want to work, I just want to bang on the drum all day.” For Jareth East (pictured), known on PocketFives as jareth3542, he’ll be able to bang his way down to the Bahamas for the 2014 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure on the heels of a victory in the Full Tilt Sunday Brawl last month for $51,000.

“I feel pretty good about the Full Tilt win,” East told PocketFives in an exclusive interview. “I hadn’t been doing so hot on Full Tilt this year, so it was nice to put that to an end.” He started the final table of the Sunday Brawl as one of three big stacks. Andrew stato_1 Hulme, ranked #165 worldwide, was to his left and, as East put it, “I knew he wasn’t going to make it easy for me.”

Speaking on how the final table played out, East relayed, “I started out great, picking up a few pots by putting the pressure on, and quickly became chip leader with double the second place stack, which is, of course, a lovely position to be in.” He proceeded to run kings into aces, but still sat with the second largest stack out of eight players.

“Three-handed, I was getting owned by Andrew (pictured) and was ICM locked because of a short stack, but then super-coolered Andrew when a short stack jammed with 10-9 suited,” East recalled. “I tank-flatted with A-A and Andrew happened to have J-J, which got me heads-up with a 2:1 chip lead.” A few hands into heads-up play, he picked up 7-7 against A-9 and a flop of 7-7-9 ended matters. He joked, “Andrew said he fist-pumped the nine for a few seconds before seeing the two sevens.”

What’s a UK poker player who sits at #27 worldwide in the PocketFives Poker Rankingsto do with $51,000 in cash? “Christmas is coming up, so I’m sure my family and girlfriend will benefit from this win,” he determined. “I also have the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure coming up, so it will be nice having extra cash to cover that, but a lot will be invested in my horses.”

East won his PCA seat through a $109 satellite on PokerStars and is looking forward to jet-setting away from winter and into a tropical resort: “What isn’t there to look forward to at the PCA,” he asked. “I guess it’s one of many dreams a poker player has, to play in the PCA. It’s paradise. I won my package for $109 into the $700 and it was a nail-biting finish where I was one of the short stacks on the direct bubble. I ended up getting my chips in with K-10 versus A-J and got there.”

He has never been to the PCA before and, speaking from experience, we can tell you the entire event is extremely unique. “I can’t wait,” East gleaned. “I’ve looked at all of the photos and it looks epic. I was heading there anyway to play the super-satellite, as I took advantage of the half-price hotel option and was going to try to qualify in the meantime. Luckily, I won a seat early.”

About a month before his Sunday Brawl win, he final tabled the PokerStars Super Tuesday for $55,000. And, just after we spoke to him, PocketFives karma came alive in the FTOPS Main Event, in which he finished fifth for over $80,000. “It certainly feels like I’m on a heater,” he told us. “I remember last year I was longing for that first five-figure score and every time I was deep, the pressure was on to get there.”

One of his best friends turned East onto poker originally and he instantly loved the game. “I used to join every site and play all of the freerolls, as I had no money,” he laughed. “We were both rubbish, of course, but I’m sure I remember winning a freeroll for 20 Euros one time.”

Outside of poker, East loves music and enjoys “raving it up” with friends. He has also started taking up old hobbies like drumming, which he once did for seven years. “I was in a couple of bands, but I miss it so much. I’ve never stopped in my head. I went to university, so it was hard to continue drumming. I was in the school band and we were really good, but then I left school. Drumming was going to be my career path once upon a time.”
