Last month, the Winamax High Roller, a $375 No Limit Hold’em tournament, drew 162 entrants and paid out a first place prize of $16,000. Its recipient was Scotland PocketFiver squire1888 (pictured), who is up to almost a half-million dollars in career online tournament winnings. “It was my first outright win in a while,” squire1888 told PocketFives. “It’s always a good feeling to get the monkey off your back.”

The High Roller is a six-max tournament on Winamax and squire1888 said of it, “It was the first time I have ever played it. I don’t usually include it in my schedule, as it’s a bit baller for me, but I’ve been doing well recently, especially on Winamax, so I decided to flick it in. The structure was very good, the final table was deep, and it’s a six-max tournament, so it was a fun MTT.”

In the middle of last year, squire1888 had a six-figure score in the PokerStars Sunday Million, which provided a learning experience of sorts. He commented, “It had a negative effect on my poker career, as I thought I was a high-stakes crusher after that and had a lot of money, so I traveled around the world flicking in EPTs and blowing through cash like a true farce, but it taught me the value of money. I learned the hard way what not to do with your wages.”

It’s September, which means there are still three months left in the calendar year. As far as his goals for the remainder of 2014, squire1888 relayed, “I want a Triple Crown for sure and to get to Columbia were my mate is staying in a baller mansion for a month’s grind and relaxation time. Aside from that, I will hopefully keep focused, make some cash, and try to be sensible about it.”

When he is not playing online poker, squire1888 is traveling and, as he said, “seeing other places as much as I can. Poker helps with that, especially when the UKIPT stops being in some nice places. Apart from that, I like to hit up north Scotland for some fishing and being a drunken farce on the weekend with the Scottish grinders.”

Speaking of Scottish grinders, there are 671 registered members from that European nation who have combined for $44.3 million in online tournament winnings, including $1.8 million in the last three months. squire1888 is the #8 ranked player in Glasgow (pictured).

He closed by sending a shout out to the 651 Team and the FHRITP Scottish Group.
