We’ve had a lot of interesting life stories from players we’ve interviewed for feature articles here on PocketFives. We’ve talked to farmers, professional footballers, college basketball players, and now we can cross “ice cream salesman” off the list. Say hello to Argentina’s Franco Ernesto Spitale (pictured), who is better known as rojostarson PocketFives. He is the proud owner of a Triple Crown, which he amassed after wins on 32Red, Betsafe, and PokerStars in a five-day span.

“I’ve been working hard this year,” Spitale said of his recent run. “I play every single day and study the rest of the time. I play for a staking site and started playing on PokerStars on my own two weeks ago. It has been since November that I’ve been winning a lot every month, but since I added PokerStars, I’m able to win more Triple Crowns.”

His drive to win also seems to be fueling his recent run. Spitale explained his mentality in MTTs: “When I reach the money in every MTT, I’m looking to stack up and be the chip leader. It’s the same when I get to final tables:I am always looking for spots. It may be a risky game, but my target is being in first place. I always want to win. It’s my motivation in everything in my life: I want to be the winner and take it all.”

He started playing poker a half-decade ago and, as we said, he was selling ice cream at the time. We’ll have cookies and cream, please. Okay, we digress. The Argentine player narrated, “My partners asked me if I wanted to join them one night. I told them I didn’t know how to play poker, but I could learn. That night, I won a little and loved the essence of the game, as I was studying psychology.”

He went from making $150 per month to having nearly $400,000 in tracked cashes in his PocketFives profile. He left college last year to devote his full attention to poker, although he’ll be taking classes on the side. “The psychology of poker is pretty cool,” Spitale said. “I love poker. I love to play it, talk about it, and learn from it every single day.”

This author has been to Spitale’s hometown of Buenos Aires (pictured), but doesn’t remember much of anything about the local poker scene. We asked for the dish on his live poker experience in the bustling city of 13 million people: “I’ve played a few MTTs here. I’ve reached the final table twice, finishing second and fourth.” Read more about the Argentina poker community.

He has done a little bit of damage traveling and playing, and it seems he’s only going to get better as time marches on: “This year, I will travel a lot to get experience and win my first big live MTT. I traveled to Punta Cana last year and to Greece to play a GSOP event without good results, but variance is a monster in those.”

Poker has gotten quite popular in Argentina, as Spitale claimed that the average salary is around $400 per month. He remarked, “It’s getting more and more popular now and people don’t associate poker with gambling anymore. There are lots of casinos and informal clubs, but I only play in the casinos. The clubs are kind of dangerous. I generally don’t play cash games, just MTTs.”

By the way, his advice to the poker community: “Be careful. I’m coming for you.” We hate to say we told you so.

Winning a Triple Crown requires a person to take down three $10,000 prize pool tournaments across three sites tracked for the PocketFives Poker Rankingswithin seven days. Visit our Triple Crown Wall of Champions to learn more.
