Earlier this month, Marcin Wydrowksi (pictured), who is known as Pyszalekhere on PocketFives, claimed victory in the World Poker Tour’s stop in Prague. A total of 567 players turned out and Wydrowksi became the first ever WPT champion from Poland. We were surprised to hear that no Pole had ever won a WPT event before, so we sat down with Wydrowksi to see how he felt about his big superlative.

I am excited about making history,” Wydrowksi told PocketFives in an exclusive interview. “I was the first Pole to be there and the first to win one. I knew there was like $400,000 for the winner, but I was fighting for the trophy. I wasn’t thinking about the house or car I could buy if I shipped it. The most important thing was to have my name as the first Pole on the big WPT trophy. When I’m gone, the poker community in Poland will know who was first.”

A week after his big WPT win, Wydrowksi took sixth in the EPT Prague High Roller Event and cashed for another $72,000. He is insanely proud to be Polish and make history on behalf of the Poland poker community: “I am proud. Like I said, it’s always good to be the first in history to do something because I’ll be always be ‘the first.'”

His two-week whirlwind adventure saw Wydrowksi square off against some of the game’s best, including Mike Gags30Gagliano (pictured), a PocketFives Traininginstructor who finished fifth in WPT Prague. He recounted, “I knew almost every good player, but I wasn’t sure if they knew who I was. I played against a lot of stars like Steve Illini213Barshak, Keven StamdoggStammen, and Cal cal42688 Anderson. They know my game pretty well, but live MTTs are completely different things.”

On his latter point, he elaborated, “I could play a completely different strategy like open-limping from early, middle, or late position. A guy told me that he never saw a guy who limped so much and never got isolated, so I believe players had a lot of respect for me.”

He noted that he had a similar advantage in the EPT Prague High Roller Event: “I was a pretty random guy compared to these sharks, but I play every day with the best guys in the world, so I know how to play poker. The High Roller field also knew that I won WPT Prague. It was pleasure to play on one table with Bertrand ElkYGrospellier, Eugene Katchalov, Sorel Imper1umMizzi, and Jason treysfull21 Mercier. Sorel was testing me the most. He 3bet me two or three times in a row. Every time I 4bet and he folded, the whole table laughed.”

The High Roller final table featured the likes of eventual champion Marvin Rettenmaier, Mercier (pictured), Mizzi, and Finland’s Juha Helppi. “The final table wasn’t so sick, but my table before that was a nightmare. I was playing my game the whole tournament, but lost two big flips the day before the final table.” He now plans to play the High Roller event at EPT Deauville, which takes place at the end of January in Northwest France.

With his newfound riches, he is looking to buy a house and a car. For the latter, he is eying an Audi A4 and, for the former, he is investigating real estate in Gdansk, Sopot, or Gdynia. He added, “I think I belong now. That’s why I was able to play my game. I couldn’t make it without that confidence. 2011 and 2012 were good years for me. I played a lot and upgraded my skills from month to month. I feel I am getting better. I hope I’ll keep improving until the end of my career.”

Finally, he made an analogy to Chris moorman1 Moorman, the most decorated member of PocketFives and the lone person to pass $7.5 million in tracked MTT cashes: “I want to be a Polish Moorman, a guy who is on top for years. To me, guys like Moorman are some of the best online players in the world. It’s so nice when top pros say they respect my game.”
