Earlier this month, Martin Mulsow (pictured with Sam TheSquidGrafton), known on PocketFives as moertelmu, came away with the win in the 888 Poker Sunday Challengefor $25,000. There were over 900 entrants that day and Mulsow helped push his career online tournament cash total to over $2.6 million. You can find him on 888 under the screen name IknowUfish.

“I feel great about it,” Mulsow told PocketFives in an exclusive interview. “I am finally a winning player on that site.”

Mulsow was on a trip with his girlfriend at the time of the tournament and, while he was looking forward to hanging out with her, he took time on Sunday to play poker. “I pretty much had only screen space for one 888 tournament,” he said. “At 5:00am, I was already really tired, but was 1/30 in the PartyPoker Major and deep in the 888 Sunday Challenge with a stack.”

He punted the PartyPoker Major in 24th place on a “spewy bluff” and explained, “I was one-tabling all the way to victory at 9:30am while sipping beers from the mini bar. Then, I woke up my girlfriend and we went for a nice breakfast, only I was drinking beer instead of coffee or milk. The server looked quite surprised when I ordered it.”

He’s headed on a road trip through Eastern Europe in June and plans to allocate a portion of his Sunday Challenge winnings toward nicer hotels. He’s also saving up to purchase some real estate.

If you’re wondering, he’ll start his Eastern Europe trip in Romania (pictured), where his girlfriend is from, and then move on to Bulgaria, Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, and Vienna, where he is currently based. We’re exhausted just thinking about it.

Also during his travels, he attended the Eureka Poker Tour’s stop in Hamburg, which is taking place right now, but won’t be heading to Las Vegas for the World Series of Poker. “Live poker really pisses me off,” he candidly said. “If things don’t go well in Vegas, the lack of online poker plus the variance of these huge-field MTTs will really turn me off.” Nevertheless, he usually takes one live poker trip per month.

His largest online cash came last November in the PokerStars.fr Sunday Night Live for $32,000. He has 10,581 tracked in the money finishes at an average of $253 each.

Mulsow got started in poker playing €2 home games with friends in 2007 and 2008. He explained, “When the boom died, I was the only one who was still interested in playing, so I saw an ad on TV and started crushing play money games on PokerStars. Then, I deposited €20 and never looked back.”

As far as why poker was appealing, Mulsow said, “I like the mental challenge and competition. Playing games against other people is just fun.”

Mulsow is #218 worldwide in the PocketFives Poker Rankings, 100 spots off his all-time high of #114 set three years ago. He’s #12 in Austria and #9 in the capital city of Vienna.
