He’s Russia’s all-time leading in live tournament earnings. He’s had 21 six-figure or bigger scores. He’s fluent in three different languages. He’s the co-founder of Raising for Effective Giving.

And now Igor Kurganov is a member of Team PokerStars Pro. The addition of Kurganov was announced on Friday.

“I’m as active in the game as I’ve ever been, so I’m excited to work with PokerStars on their future plans. They have undoubtedly been, and will continue to be, the driving force in the poker market and the company that I believe provides the best poker experience for a wide range of players,” said Kurganov. “Additionally, PokerStars are going to be supporting some of our plans with REG this year, which makes me really happy.”

Kurganov co-founded REG alongside girlfriend fellow Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree.

The 28-year-old first broke into the live scene in 2009 with four cashes, including a fifth place finish at the Irish Masters. He began to really make a name for himself in 2011 when he final tabled three high roller events. He finished second to Bertrand Grospellier at the 2011 European Poker Tour Madrid High Roller for $182,560, third in the EPT Tallinn High Roller for $58,210 and second to Philipp Gruissem at the EPT London Hiigh Roller for $497,499.

Kurganov’s first live win came at the 2012 EPT Grand Final High Roller where he beat Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu heads-up to win $1,425,874. He’s cashed 59 times and now has live earnings of $12,042,540, mostly in big buy-in high roller events.

Since Kurganov speaks Russian, German and English fluently, PokerStars will be able to use him in multiple markets to promote the brand.

“With all the talk of artificial intelligence and poker, we’re proud to bring someone with such profound human intelligence as the newest member of PokerStars Team Pro. Igor’s mathematical poker mind and passion for giving back to society represent some of the best traits in poker,” said Eric Hollreiser, Vice President of Corporate Communications for PokerStars. “As an outspoken advocate for online and live poker players, he’ll contribute to our products, our policies and our promotion of live and online poker in Russia, Germany and serve as a global ambassador for poker as a member of Team Pro.”

Kurganov can now be found on PokerStars, playing under the screenname ‘IgorKurganov’.
