Wade ricestudTownsend (pictured) has been on a tear so far this year. He opened 2014 by taking down the PokerStars $109 Sunday Rebuy for almost $60,000 officially. He final tabled an FTOPS tournament for $26,000 and then, in a one-week span earlier this month, won the PokerStars $109 No Limit Hold’em Turbo 2X Chance and $109 No Limit Hold’em Turbo Cubed for about $50,000 total.

In mid-April, Townsend won the PartyPoker $100,000 Guarantee High Roller and added $18,000 to his bankroll. On that win, he told PocketFives, “The field in that tournament is surprisingly soft. I actually took fourth in it the week before. I think it’s that Party runs a couple of satellites for it and those players, combined with the regular Party field, make most of the tournaments soft there.”

Townsend recently hit $2 million in tracked scores and is already up to $2.2 million. He has earned $1.4 million on PokerStars alone and said of his plans for the money, “I want to continue to see things on Earth and live each day like it’s the best day ever.”

Like other PocketFivers, he will shortly head to the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, allocating some of his bankroll there and staying in a house with friends. He added, “I’m most interested in the Main Event and any Mixed Game tournaments.”

As we said, Townsend has been churning out solid result after solid result online as of late and sits at his highest point ever in the PocketFives Poker Rankings at #49 in the world. He is #3 in Mexico and #1 in his picturesque hometown of Cabo San Lucas. “I think I’ve been progressing quite quickly, so we’ll see how it plays out over the next year or so,” he said.

On the live felts, Townsend has one major score, according to the Hendon Mob, a win in a $760 WSOP Circuit Event in Tunica in 2008 for $77,000. His lifetime live haul is about double that amount.

When asked who or what has been most influential in his life, Townsend singled out a recent five-time SCOOP watch winner: “The most influential person in my poker life, by far, is Calvin cal42688 Anderson (pictured). It’s kind of ridiculous to be around people six years younger than you whom you look up to based solely on how they think.” Anderson is #43 worldwide on PocketFives and was ranked #1 as recently as last November.

Finally, in case you’re curious, the name ricestud, Townsend’s nickname across pretty much every major online poker site, comes from the fact that he attended Rice University in Texas. Creative!
