PocketFives.com: Thanks for joining us. Talk about your phenomenal run in recent days.

Jake Bazeley: I flew out to San Diego and hung out with one of the kids I back, donkcommited. He showed me some spots to be more aggressive, so I picked up some things, started trying them out, and they worked. We drove up to Los Angeles for the L.A. Poker Classic and have been playing online in the hotel room whenever we aren’t playing live. It’s been a lot of trial and error, but it has worked out thus far.

PocketFives.com: We heard you took second in an event during the L.A. Poker Classic for $32,000, so your hard work has paid off. What have you specifically focused on?

Jake Bazeley: I just started being more aggressive, making a lot more 3bets and 4bets in the right spots and squeezing in the right spots. It’s a fine line, though, and you have to be good at picking your spots. I didn’t think I would have this kind of success immediately, but all of a sudden, I had a bunch of stacks. I can still play a tight game too, so I mix it up. When I have a 20 big blind stack or smaller, I play that stack really well.

PocketFives.com: Do you have any plans for the money?

Jake Bazeley: I back about seven players, so I’m going to keep most of it online. There is a lot of variance in backing.

PocketFives.com: Can you tell us a bit about your experience playing live poker?

Jake Bazeley: Live pros don’t have the discipline that online guys have. Online guys do not make mathematical errors. They don’t flat a third of their stack pre-flop and fold flops like I see all the time live. I just try and stay calm the whole time. I’m not very animated at the table, so I just stay at an even keel and make correct decisions. Some of these guys give of a lot of information in their mannerisms like shaky hands, hard breathing, and how fast they act.

PocketFives.com: Can you keep this type of success up in the future?

Jake Bazeley: I hope so. I’m just constantly trying to get better. I’ve become friends with a lot of great players and have learned a lot. I’m just trying to work every day as hard as I can. If you're not getting better, you are getting worse. There are a lot of trends in poker that the best players in the world pick up on first and that’s why they are winning so much.

PocketFives.com: Is there anyone you want to recognize for helping you along?

Jake Bazeley: Michael rock3656 Rocco, donkcommited, blizair, Ben The Destroyer Mintz, rusostreet, Austin quietwinner McCormick, icudonk, Coury scags23 Mascagni, Aaron Aaron_Hacker Hacker, Justin truesyalose Truesdell, Ryan gutshtallin Welch (pictured at left), John JRD312 Dolan, and Justin lockdownpokah Allen. I have a lot of good friends in poker and feel very fortunate. I’ve learned from them all. I could name ten other guys to give shout outs to.
