On Tuesday night, Jeff jp4estForrest (pictured) became the newest World Poker Tour (WPT) champ after taking down the Foxwoods World Poker Finals. Forrest, 22 years of age, made a historic run in his first ever WPT event and banked $548,000. He entered the final table in second place on the leaderboard to Tom Kingsofcards Marchese, holding 81 big blinds, and ultimately came out a winner. Let’s take a look at the marathon final table, which stretched well over 200 hands.

Mohsin chicagocards1Charania (pictured) delivered a double up to fellow community member Keven Stamdogg Stammen to cripple his stack to less than one big blind. Charania’s pocket sevens could not draw out on Stammen’s pocket eights and he moved his remaining chips in on the very next hand. This time, Charania’s 6-3 could not improve against Marchese’s A-6 and he was the first casualty of the final table. Charania banked $104,000 in his first WPT final table appearance.

Stammen(pictured) was the next to go. In his final hand, he moved all-in under the gun with A-10 of hearts and ran into the A-Q belonging to Dave Inselberg. A Q-10-4 flop gave both players a piece of the action, but Inselberg retained his lead in the hand with a pair of queens. Inselberg hit another lady on the river and Stammen was eliminated after making his first WPT final table. He took home $128,000.

Inselberg ousted Nikolai Yakovenko to trim the final table to four players. Yakovenko staked his tournament life with pocket aces on a flop of K-8-7, but Inselberg showed K-8 for top two pair. The turn was a three and the river was a nine, giving Inselberg the second largest stack entering three-handed play. Marchese was still well out in front and Forrest was the low man on the totem pole.

The three remaining players traded double ups down the stretch and Marchese (pictured) was ultimately sunk in third place after running A-K into Forrest’s K-6 on his final hand. Forrest hit a six on the flop to pull away and no help came on the turn or river for Marchese, who took down the PokerStars North American Poker Tour (NAPT) Venetian Main Event in February. He walked away with $211,000, his best WPT showing to date.

Forrest entered heads-up play as a 5:2 favorite and closed the tournament out in just 10 hands. On a flop of 9-8-5, Inselberg was all-in with 9-6 for top pair and a gutshot and up against Forrest’s pocket queens for an overpair. Forrest turned a set and then faded a seven on the river for his first WPT title. He picked up $548,000, a prize that includes a seat in the 2011 WPT Championship at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.

Here’s how the final table of the WPT Foxwoods World Poker Finals cashed out:

The WPT is currently camped out in Amneville, France for a non-televised event at the Seven Casino d’ Amneville. After an event in Marrakech, the tour returns to the United States for the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic from December 3rd to 8th at the Bellagio. The latter tournament will boast a $10,000 buy-in this year, down from $15,000 in 2009. In its last running, Daniel Alaei edged out Josh Arieh for a $1.4 million top prize.
