For the second time in his career, Brazil’s Joao ‘joaosimaobh’ Simao is the #1 player in the PocketFives Rankings. He moved up one spot this week to wrestle the title away from Sweden’s ‘C Darwin2‘, who can now be found at #2.

Simao was last ranked #1 from May 4 to May 11. He finished second in the PokerStars Hot $215 on May 22 and recorded the largest score of his online poker career in April in the site’s Mountain Series after winning a $1,050 Pot Limit Omaha Rebuy Six-Max for $167,000 and 872 PLB Points, the metric used to determine the rankings.

For his career, Simao is up to $4.2 million in winnings from almost 4,000 in the money finishes, an average of $1,068 apiece. He leads the 2,352 Brazilians on PocketFives with PLB scores and plays on PokerStars under the user name ‘INeedMassari‘.

“I’m actually dealing with a health problem in my family right now,” Simao said. “All I wish is to find the top doctor around to take care of my son. I hope that everything goes well and I use this to motivate me and push me to my limit to do my best for my family.”

Unlike last week, there were no new entrants into the top 10 this time around. In fact, there was only one new entrant into the top 20. That honor belonged to Phil ‘philroyal888’ Mighall, who climbed from #21 to #16, his best showing ever. Mighall, who calls the UK home, took down the PokerStars Fat Tuesday one day ago for $15,000. Last month, he won both the partypoker High Roller and PokerStars $320 Wednesday PLO.

After entering his screen names into his PocketFives profile, Denmark’s Andreas ‘Hoegh93’ Hogh entered the rankings at #22, his best showing since he became a member of PocketFives in 2012. Hogh absolutely killed the month of May, registering four scores of at least $30,000 in a span of nine days:

May 14: 11th place, SCOOP $21,000 Eight-Max High Roller for $73,000
May 15: 2nd place, SCOOP $2,100 Mixed Omaha for $59,000
May 22: 35th place, SCOOP $10,000 Main Event for $34,000
May 23: 7th place, SCOOP $1,050 NLHE for $57,000

Hogh is on the verge of hitting $2 million in online tournament winnings for his career. He won a PocketFives Triple Crown in 2013 to boot.

Jordan ‘JWPRODIGY’ Westmorland moved up 23 spots to #40

After winning the PokerStars Sunday Grand over the weekend, Jordan ‘JWPRODIGY’ Westmorland shot up from #63 to #40 this week, two spots off his all-time high set in 2013. Westmorland booked a $69,000 payday for winning the Sunday Grand, his third largest score ever. Two weeks earlier, he finished second in a $109 No Limit Hold’em SCOOP event for $53,000.

Westmorland is the #1 ranked online poker player in Thailand and just passed 4,200 tracked in the money finishes for his career.

Ukraine’s ‘STiger‘ moved up from #100 to #63, one spot off his best ranking ever, thanks to a win in the partypoker High Roller on Monday for $37,000. He took third in the Hot $215 one day before that for $10,000. ‘STiger’ is the top-ranked player in Ukraine and reached an all-time high of #62 in the rankings last year.

Latvia’s ‘Damage‘ also made waves. He moved up from #97 to #68, his best ranking ever, after winning last week’s Thursday Thrill on PokerStars for $43,000 and 462 PLB Points. Also in May, he finished second in the Sunday Countdown for $19,000, won the site’s Big $215 for $24,000, and took third in the 888 Baby Whale for $14,000.

‘Damage’ is the top-ranked player in Latvia out of the 383 PocketFives members with PLB scores from that country and just hit $1.5 million in career online winnings. He plays on PokerStars and 888 under the screen name ‘APonakov‘.

Finally, Australia’s ‘Corlusion‘ reentered the top 100 at #87, four spots off his all-time high set earlier this year. He won the PokerStars Hot $162 and $12,000 Guarantee on May 29 for over $20,000 total and is $99,000 shy of hitting $1 million in scores for his career. ‘Corlusion’ is the third-ranked online poker player in Australia.
