Joao ‘Naza114’ Vieira’s quest to be the best continued last month as one of Portugal’s most prolific poker pros broke through into the Online Poker Rankings top 10 and racked up over $867,000 in total earnings en route to locking up the March Online Player of the Month title.
Vieira finished March with 4,725 points, a good portion of which helped him take an early lead in the Online Player of the Year race and almost all can be traced back to the fact that Vieira took the time to update his profile last month. Once he did, an avalanche of impressive recent results was revealed that took him from the status of unranked right into the thick of battling as the top online poker player in the world.
Vieira’s March got off to a quick start with a fifth-place finish in the GGPoker $25,500 Super High Roller where he outlasted the likes of Daniel Dvoress, Jason Koon, and Matthias Eibinger to lock up a $222,514 payday, the third-largest score of his career, plus 642.75 points. Then on March 5, he finished in sixth place in the GGPoker $10,300 High Roller for another $74,813 and 400.91 points.
Less than a week later, Vieira picked up yet another six-figure score. He finished in third place in the GGPoker Sunday 500 for $142,724 and 569.01 points. At the very same time he was grinding his way to a seventh-place finish in the GGPoker Sunday High Rollers Main Event for an extra $31,885 and 328.53.
He closed out the month the same way he started it, with another massive score. Vieira made the final table of the March 23rd edition of the GGPoker Super MILLION$ and finished in fourth place for $187,255 plus 618.64 points.
Consistency was Vieira’s strength in March, a month in which he actually didn’t record a single outright victory. He did, however, accumulate 74 in-the-money finishes for a grand total of $867,833, landing in the top 10 roughly 25% of the time.
Vieira currently sits at the #5 ranked player in the world, but perhaps more importantly has climbed to #2 on the Online All-Time Money List with over $21.3 million in total earnings.
Brazil’s Bruno ‘brunovolks’ Volkmann, who finished as March’s runner-up, had the kind of month most grinders dream of. What he lacked in volume, he more than made up for in astonishing results, picking up 47 cashes for $766,799 and a total of 4,405 points.
Of his 47 results, he finished in the top three 15 times (32%) with nine outright wins. That means that in March, Volkmann won 19% of the time he cashed. That includes his victory in the March 2 PokerStars High Roller Club $1,050 Daily Cooldown for $51,922 and 362.29 points. The very next day he was victorious in the GGPoker $525 Bounty Hunters Special for another $17,175 and 457.71 points.
The trend continued on March 4 when he binked a win in Event #102 of the PokerStars Turbo Series for $44,917. He had to wait three whole days before he won again in the March 7 GGPoker $5,250 High Rollers Special for $57,374.
Despite all of his victories, Volkmann’s month was highlighted not with a win but with a runner-up finish in the March 16 edition of the GGPoker Super MILLION$ where he earned 942.32 points and $318,042, the second-largest score of his online career.
Former #1-ranked Bert ‘girafganger7’ Stevens finished as the runner-up in the Online Player of the Month race in February and once again he made a run at it in March, ending up in third place with 3,874 points.
The standout score of Stevens’ month came on March 8 when he finished as the runner-up in the GGPoker $25,500 Super High Roller for $655,289, the second-highest haul of his extensive online career, which also netted him 1,175.58 points.
