Jonathan Aguiar (FatalError) Breaks Down WSOP Main Event Final Table
There are a bevy of PocketFivers in the house at the Penn and Teller Theater at the Rio in Las Vegas, the site of the 2010 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event. Among them is live tournament regular Jonathan FatalErrorAguiar, who pulled in $16,000 from a pair of cashes this year at the WSOP. Aguiar, who has cashed in all three tournaments held as part of the PokerStars-sponsored North American Poker Tour (NAPT) in 2010, sat down with PocketFives.com to dissect the Main Event and look ahead to NAPT Los Angeles.
PocketFives.com: Tell us why you’re here. Also, who is your pick to win the Main Event?
Jonathan Aguiar: I came out here with my girlfriend Alexis, who is doing some production work for ESPN and backdoored my way into some commentary on ESPN3 so I could make fun of some Italians and the way they play poker. I’m rooting for Joseph subiimeCheong, Michael Mizrachi, and John JRD312 Dolan. There are a lot of guys you can root for at this final table.
PocketFives.com: What was it like doing commentary for ESPN?
Jonathan Aguiar: I’ve done it before for EPT Live, but the WSOP Main Event final table is way bigger. I watched this on TV when I was learning about poker and now I am doing some of the commentary. Going on after Phil Hellmuth felt good.
PocketFives.com: How has the live poker circuit been treating you as of late?
Jonathan Aguiar: It’s been using me like a whipping boy for the last seven or eight months. But that’s just how it is: you get beat up for a while and just have to land that one good punch.
PocketFives.com: We take it you’re headed to the NAPT L.A. Main Event next week?
Jonathan Aguiar: I’ve actually cashed in all three NAPT tournaments this year, so I’m looking for a chance to run the board and cash again. I final tabled Mohegan Sun and got eighth, took 22nd at the Venetian, and got 42nd in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.
PocketFives.com: Is there something about the NAPT structure that plays in your favor?
Jonathan Aguiar: I think I do really well in the PokerStars standardized structure. They suit my game really well. It rushes through some of the early levels and I feel like I can take advantage of some of the bad players.
PocketFives.com: Who at this year’s WSOP Main Event final table have you played with? What can you tell us about their games?
Jonathan Aguiar: I’ve played with everyone at this final table except Filippo Candio. I’ve played a ton with “The Grinder” over the years and he’s a really tough guy. Jason Senti is a really great online player. I was saying during the commentary that he has the best chance of grinding a 25 big blind stack all the way to heads-up. I played with Joseph Cheong in London and he was just a really cool, down-to-Earth guy. He’s really sharp and plays some really great street poker once he gets in there and mixes it up.
