Konstantinos ‘arxigos’ Nanos Won Another TCOOP Title on Tuesday

Day 6 of the PokerStars Turbo Championship of Online Poker featured four tournaments, all of which brought prize pools surpassing their guarantees. Europe dominated Tuesday’s events, with players from Germany, Austria, Czech Republic and Hungary taking home titles.

The schedule began with Event #24, an $82 Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo Six Max Turbo. A total of 1,206 players entered the tournament, generating a $90,450 prize pool and putting the original $50,000 guaranteed to shame.

Making an appearance at the final table was Scott ‘Aggro Santos’ Margereson, a two-time WCOOP winner looking to add a TCOOP title to his resume. The Mexico-based pro started the final table with the third-biggest stack, but was taken out in fourth, earning $5,879 for his efforts. Germany’s ‘Raabinator93’ and Canadian Doug ‘imcastleman’ Dicken were the last two players standing, and discussed a deal, but couldn’t agree on the terms before continuing. Rejecting the proposition turned out to be a good move by ‘Raabinator93’, who overcame a 3:1 chip deficit to secure first-place and a $15,150 payout.

Event #25 offered a simple 7-Card Stud Turbo with an $82 buy-in and a $25,000 guarantee. The tournament drew 540 entrants who pumped the prize pool up to $40,500. At around the third hour of play, the money bubble burst, with the 72 remaining players guaranteed to get a cut of the total pot.

As the final table thinned, only André ‘Sira Al Aziz’ Santos of the Czech Republic and ‘mddgfc’ of the UK remained. Santos, who already has a SCOOP title under his belt, got the best of his opponent and had collected all of the chips just after the tournament went into its third hour. The Czech grinder took home $7,654 for the victory, with ‘mddgfc’ going home with a consolation prize of $5,609.

The third tournament of the day was a $700 buy-in No Limit Hold’em Eight Max Ultra-Deep event which garnered 1,377 entrants and boasted a prize pool of $915,705, well above its original $700,000 guarantee.

Three of the eight players at the final table already had COOP titles to their name, including Georgios ‘GeoManousos’ Sotiropoulos and ‘Domce’, both with SCOOP bracelets, and Konstantinos ‘arxigos’ Nanos with a 2012 TCOOP bracelet.

Russia’s ‘BARBARVSSA2’ and Nanos outlasted the field and did battle for the title. ‘BARBARVSSA2’ started with nearly double his opponent’s chips, but saw his stack evaporate after Nanos won 7 hands in a row. The come-from-behind defeat gave Nanos his second TCOOP win and a $161,164 first-place prize.

Event #27, a $27 No Limit Hold’em 2X Turbo with rebuys, was last up on the day’s schedule. The tournament was the most popular event of the afternoon, pulling in 3,086 runners who made 7,345 rebuys and 2,083 add-ons. The prize pool grew to $307,218, eclipsing the $200,000 advertised guarantee.

After the field had been whittled down to just four, the remaining players struck a deal which would give each of them at least $32,547, with $4,000 reserved for first. Four-and-a-half hours into the event, Hungary’s ‘wemax’ defeated ‘Leviathan74’ of Greece with an overpair, giving him the TCOOP title and a $38,000 payday.
