PocketFives.com member Dan LeonPColpoys (pictured) made the final days of 2010 count. On December 19th, he finished second in the PokerStars $55 Rebuyfor $29,000. Three days later, another five-figure bankroll boost was in the works, as Colpoys won the Full Tilt Poker $75,000 Guaranteefor $24,000. One day before Christmas, the Massachusetts resident won the Full Tilt Poker $100 Cubed for $10,000 and then took fourth in the site’s Friday Night Fight on Christmas Eve.

On December 26th, he padded his bankroll even further by placing second in the PokerStars $200 Rebuy for $23,000 and then grabbed fourth in the UB.com $75,000 Guarantee one day later for $7,100. Yawn. $109,000 in earnings later, it was just another week at the office for Colpoys, who sat down with PocketFives.com to recap his heater.

Colpoys profiled the roller coaster month of December: “It was a month of close calls with some mediocre scores mixed in, so I thought a heater was coming. Tom Marchese (pictured) has helped me a bunch and I want to congratulate him on winning the CardPlayer Player of the Year race.” Marchese made 11 final tables in major live tournaments in 2010 according to the Hendon Mob database.

Colpoys met Marchese at a party during the 2010 World Series of Poker (WSOP) and the two entered into a backing arrangement in September. The PocketFiver admitted, “Having someone with his knowledge of the game to talk hands with is great and I am really lucky. His game is leaps and bounds above anyone else I know. What Tom accomplished this year is simply incredible and it couldn’t have happened to a better guy.”

Several of Colpoys’ recent hits have come in rebuys. On his success in the poker format, he commented, “The more chips, the better. A lot of guys make pretty big fundamental mistakes in deep stack tournaments and I have been able to exploit that a bit more than in other tournaments where the average stacks are a bit smaller. I just try to see a lot of flops.”

Other highlights of the passing calendar year for Colpoys included winning a $1,000 buy-in PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) event for $214,000 in September and final tabling the Sunday Million in June for $120,000. In November, Colpoys claimed second in the PokerStars Super Tuesday for another $59,000. “I was more than thrilled. I set a few goals at the beginning of 2010 and the first few months could not have gone worse,” Colpoys reflected. “But ever since the WSOP, I have been on a huge online upswing. It feels really good to be where I am at today and it would have seemed unimaginable in early May.”

His impressive results have earned him the 28th spot in the PocketFives.com Poker Rankings and he is quickly closing in on the top 10. “It’s definitely cool to see your hard work paying off. I kind of feel like it’s all relative. Once you’re in the top 100, you look to get into the top 50 and then when you’re in the top 50, you really want to get into the top 10, so that is definitely going to be a goal of mine for 2011.”

He added, “Getting into the top 10 would be a really cool milestone and then if I make that, I’d obviously go for the top spot. I also want to win a major live event. That is most certainly my top goal, but at this point, I would like to get a bankroll where I can play on my own.”

When PocketFives.com caught up with Colpoys, it was just before Noon ET and he had not yet slept. He explained his night of restlessness: “I stayed up, went to Denny’s for breakfast, and couldn’t sleep. I also need to attribute a lot of this to Steve gboro780Gross (pictured) for sending me some stupid game from AddictingGames.com. It’s so pointless, but I cannot stop playing it.” If you’re wondering, the game is called Parking Lot.

Congratulations to Colpoys on his impressive December run.
