The Mayans were wrong, so with the start of the New Year, the tournament action around North America is picking up. Let’s see what we have in store for January! East

Assuming you can find Delaware on the map, the Delaware Park Winter Poker Classic (January 2 to 15) gives 2013 a strong start. The series will spread several events each day, has a points championship, decent chip stacks, and guarantees or money added to most tournaments. There are a variety of events including Six-Max, HORSE, Omaha/8, and NLHE, with buys-ins ranging from $35 to $1,090. This should be two weeks of non-stop poker action.

From there, you can head east to Atlantic City for the WPT Borgata Winter Open (January 15 to February 1), which has 24 events showcasing the televised $3,500 Championship. In addition, there are a variety of side events with buy-ins ranging from $200 to $1,650.

You could also head north to Niagara Falls, Canada for the Fallsview Poker Classic (January 16 to 21). The series has three events with buy-ins of $1,000 CAD, $2,500 CAD, and $5,000 CAD.

West

The Bicycle Casino in Bell Gardens, California will host the World Series of Poker Circuit from January 2 to 18. In addition to the standard 12 ring events, there will be several non-ring events including a LIPS Tour ladies event.

Also in Los Angeles, the Commerce Casino hosts the WPT L.A. Poker Classic (January 15 to March 3), which is one of the largest tournament series of the year. In addition to the $10,000 NLHE event, there are 68 events in a variety of formats with buy-ins ranging from $75 to $25,000. There is something for everyone in this series.

Meanwhile in Las Vegas, Caesars Palace hosts its Winter Poker Classic from January 4 to 17. Highlights include a $560 Championship event and a $240 NBC National Heads-Up Qualifier. The NBC Heads-Up Championship will take place at Caesars from January 24 to 26.

The Ante Up Poker Tour will hold its second event (January 25 to 27) at the Red Rock Casino Resort in Las Vegas. The $1,100 Main Event features two Day 1s. Single-table satellites begin January 21 and $260 super satellites will run from January 22 to 24.

And to close the month in Vegas is the Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza, which starts on January 31. The series boasts 78 events over 29 days with buy-ins ranging from $200 to $2,500.

Central

Large tournament action is fairly sparse in the Central U.S. in January. However, the Choctaw Casino Resort in Durant, Oklahoma will host the World Series of Poker Circuit from January 10 to 21. There are lots of extra tournaments in addition to the standard 12 ring events, including PLO, PLO8, and a Ladies NLHE event.

South

There are lots of tournaments in the South and it all kicks off in Biloxi, Mississippi at the Beau Rivage Million Dollar Heater (January 4 to 31). The series features 29 events and $1 million in guarantees. Also in Mississippi, the WSOP Circuit makes a stop at Harrah’s Tunica from January 24 to February 4. This stop will have 12 ring events and 18 non-ring events.

One of the most anticipated events of the year, the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (January 5 to14), takes place at the beautiful Atlantis Resort and Casino on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. There are 40 events with buy-ins ranging from $300 to $100,000. Keep in mind that rooms at Atlantis are expensive, so budget accordingly.

And for even more Caribbean action, the Heartland Poker Tour joins up with CardPlayer Cruises to host HPT on the High Seas (January 19 to 26). The cruise departs from Fort Lauderdale, Florida and there will be several qualifiers offered for the $1,100 televised Main Event.

The Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida will host the WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open (January 23 to February 12). In addition to the $3,500 televised Main Event, the series will offer 25 other events with buy-ins from $125 to $1,100. There are over $1 million in guarantees for the series.

Also in Florida, the Isle Casino in Pompano Park, Florida will be hosting the DeepStacks Poker Tour from January 10 to 29. There will be 13 events with buy-ins ranging from $100 to $2,500.
