On the final day of October, Brendan Make It RainEdmonds came away with the win in the Full Tilt Poker $750,000 Guaranteefollowing a heads-up chop with fellow online poker player eyes7475. The deal was worth $120,000, his second largest cash to date, and he told PocketFives.com that he had a mountain of chips to work with throughout the Sunday Major, undoubtedly contributing to the win: “It’s nice to have chips in the biggest tournament of the day, but you never really try to get too excited about it or anything.”

The field numbered nearly 4,000 and the top 522 players finished in the money. He became critically short when a few hundred runners were left standing, but won several races to plow back to the chip average. When 150 players were still in the mix, Edmonds held a top 10 stack after doubling through the same opponent not once, not twice, but three times: “I was lucky to have them all hold up and that’s how I got to a good position with 100 or so left.”

He explained, “There was a huge hand with about 18 players left where I 3bet J-J and got cold 4bet by an aggressive player on the button. I tanked and shoved. He snapped off with 9-9 and I was lucky enough to both be ahead and have it hold. It was a massive pot at the time and I went into the final table with an above average stack.”

The chop came during the second round of discussions when play was heads-up. Edmonds explained why a deal was struck in the $216 buy-in online poker tournament: “I think we were both happy to lock in six-figures and play for a bit less in the end. He played a lot better than I did heads-up too, so it was probably a good decision to chop despite winning.” Edmonds, an Australian, owns over $1 million in tournaments that are tracked for the PocketFives.com Online Poker Rankings.

In February, Edmonds made mincemeat of the Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS). He took down a $322 buy-in No Limit Hold’em event for his first jersey and was two days removed from taking second to Josh AAeveryhand Hillock in a $535 buy-in No Limit Hold’em Heads-Up contest. The two cashes were good for over $110,000 combined. On how the FTOPS and $750,000 Guarantee wins stack up, Edmonds remarked, “Both are great tournaments to win, so I’m stoked about both. Any time you win a tournament, you’ve done all you can do.”

Edmonds got in to poker at the urging of fellow Aussie Callum c-biz-kidFord during college. “It was just something I did for fun with friends,” Edmonds noted. “I really enjoyed it and always wanted to get better and better.” He ultimately deposited $100 online and sought the lowest stakes possible to grind out his bankroll. Edmonds now appears in fifth in the Sortable Poker Rankingsfor Australia (pictured) and owns the 235th spot worldwide, the highest mark he’s been able to achieve.

In September and October alone, Edmonds raked in nearly $250,000 from Rankings-eligible tournaments. Despite his other accomplishments in 2010, he told PocketFives.com that his big breakthrough in the industry came four years ago. He had only amassed four-figure cashes to that point and promptly took down a $1,000 buy-in Six-Max tournament on the Ongame Network for a smooth $164,000. He candidly admitted, “That’s probably the point where I never looked back.”

Edmonds is averaging a brisk $1,483 per in the money finish tracked by PocketFives.com and has four cashes in the past two months that crossed the $10,000 plateau. Check out this week’s cycle of the Full Tilt$750,000 Guarantee by signing up through PocketFives.com.
