Late last month, Canada’s Jordan Hamilton (pictured), known as LegitNiton PocketFives, barreled his way through the 888 Poker Sunday Challenge, a $90 one-rebuy tournament, and banked $23,000. The momentum from that score has certainly been noticeable, as in back-to-back days in the young month of September, he has reached first and third in the PokerStars Big $109 for nearly $40,000 total. PocketFives sat down with Hamilton for a debriefing of the 888 tournament.

Hamilton told us that the 888 Sunday Challenge, which brought out a field of nearly 900 players, went “really smoothly. It didn’t feel like a normal tournament. I just started playing on 888 last month. I’ve been playing on PokerStars for years, but never had a big score there. I guess I always imagined having a bigger score would feel tougher. I never had my chips in during the last two tables, but did get one-outed on the final table bubble.”

As we said, the Sunday Challenge comes complete with one rebuy worth $90, which many players we’ve talked to claim is important to take immediately. Hamilton echoed that sentiment, arguing, “You should always take the rebuy right away because if other people are rebuying right away, you don’t want to miss out on having a big hand against them and only having half the chips they do. You can instantly tell who is a fish if they don’t rebuy right away, so you try to pick on those guys as much as you can.”

When we spoke to Hamilton, he was heading back to Torontofor the ongoing PokerStars WCOOP and then was traveling westward to Vancouver. In November, his whirlwind live poker adventure will take him to Playground Poker in Montrealfor a WPT stop.

But wait, there’s more. As if Hamilton needed to travel more, he is headed to theCayman Islands in December to visit and friend and SCUBA dive. Then, it’s on to Thailandin February with his brother. We’re sure there is a support group somewhere for travel addicts, as Hamilton confessed, “I’m totally addicted to traveling.”

Besides racking up frequent flier miles like there’s no tomorrow, Hamilton will use some of his 888 and PokerStars winnings to take extra shots in WCOOP events: “I want to play a couple of extra WCOOP tournaments, hopefully play a WPT Main Event, and play an EPT event.

When Hamilton was 16, he got into poker through $5 home games and railed friends while they played online. He narrated, “I slowly got into online poker and got backed by a friend. I played 180-mans for a couple of years and was pretty clueless in them, but still won a bit. I met tonkaaaa (pictured) through Two Plus Two, got some coaching from him, and just recently I’ve been playing mid- and high-stakes MTTs.”

In case you haven’t noticed, Hamilton is a big fan of live poker. He explained how he views live tournaments and travel destinations: “I love the adrenaline that MTTs give me. I really want to travel and play live MTTs while continuing to grind online as I go. However, live MTTs aren’t as important to me as seeing parts of the world that really interest me. For example, I’ve been to Brazil a couple times and I’m going back for the World Cup.”

He closed by sending a shout out to fellow PocketFives member tonkaaaa: “I would just like to give a big shout out to tonkaaaa. I wouldn’t be where I am today without him. Thanks bro!”
