Buzzing this weekend in the online poker world is a Chrysler 300 commercialthat includes a brief appearance from poker pro Phil Ivey. It’s notable because Chrysler is not a poker-related company; therefore, an appearance by a major poker player in a mass-market commercial is buzzworthy considering the difficulty of non-poker advertisers and sponsors nowadays.

According to AutoNews, “‘The Kings and Queens of America‘ is a 60-second spot featuring images of Americans who have created their own success, including gambler and entrepreneur Phil Ivey, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon. It’s narrated by actor Peter Dinklage, who plays Tyrion Lannister on ‘Game of Thrones.'” Always good to fit in a “Game of Thrones” reference.

Ivey pops up around the halfway point of the commercial and appears to be walking through a casino. He’s donning a blue collared shirt draped with a sport coat, with his eyes offset from the camera.

Posters on Two Plus Two questioned whether or not Ivey’s appearance was beneficial to poker, an industry that’s always seeking new blood. As one person put it, “I just think it’s cool and good for poker when poker players get featured in more mainstream venues.” Another player wrote, “It’s hard to say what it means, if anything. It certainly caught my attention.”

The commercial is for the Chrysler 300 and ends with the catch phrase “Drive Proud.”

Even though his name isn’t shown on the screen, Ivey is one of the most recognizable poker pros in the game today. He’s the owner of ten World Series of Poker bracelets and has $22 million in live poker tournament cashes, according to the Hendon Mob, the fourth highest total of all-time.
