Nico Fierro won 11 PocketFives Triple Crowns in 2015

There were a total of 97 PocketFives Triple Crownsawarded in 2015. Before we tell you who won, let’s make sure we’re all on the same page about what a Triple Crown is. In order to get one, a player must win three MTTs across three sites we track for the PocketFives Rankings within the same seven-day period. Each tournament must have a prize pool of at least $10,000, at least 100 players, and a real money buy-in. Satellites do not count.

Any discussion of Triple Crowns won last year has to begin with Chile’s Nico PokerKaiser Fierro. Why? Fierro won not one, not two, but 11 Triple Crowns in 2015, raising his career total to 21. Here’s a look at Fierro’s 11 wins last year:

Fierro is second on the all-time Triple Crown list, trailing only Chris moorman1 Moorman, who has 25 to his name. Fierro has every Triple Crown the nation of Chile has won and was ranked #1 on PocketFives as recently as August.

Points-wise, the largest Triple Crown of 2015 went to Mexico’s norfair18. He won his second career Triple Crown in February after wins on 888, PartyPoker, and PokerStars for a total of 1,059 PLB Points, which included a victory in the Super Tuesday for 800 PLB Points. norfair18’s Triple Crown was the 15th largest Triple Crown points-wise by any player ever.

Rafael Watanabe do Prado, aka rwprado, also scored over 1,000 points in a Triple Crown in 2015, generating 1,056 after winning tournaments on PokerStars, Full Tilt, and 888 in June. He won the PokerStars Hotter $55 and 888 Sunday Challenge on the same day, June 21, en route to his first accolade.

Sweden’s Smecktenwon two Triple Crowns in 2015. Both came in December and were worth almost 900 PLB Points combined. His last Triple Crown, which was also the final one awarded in 2015, came after wins in the 888 Crocodile, PartyPoker Heavyweight Turbo, and PokerStars $82 No Limit Hold’em Hyper-Turbo.

The 97 Triple Crowns awarded in 2015 were down from the 138 given out in 2014. Although the criteria for a Triple Crown have changed over the years, here’s a look at the number of them awarded each year on PocketFives:
