PocketFives had the opportunity to chat with Nevada member Daniel voffDeveau. Daniel’s lifetime cashes of just over $1,000,000 speak to his ability and love of the game. A former Bostonian, Daniel has lived in the Las Vegas area since 2006. His twitter account name is @DRDeveau. Daniel shares with us his story.

PocketFives: Are you on Twitter?

Daniel Deveau: My twitter handle is @DRDeveau, but as of today I never tweet. I mostly use it to keep tabs on the different poker rooms throughout Vegas.

PocketFives: Are you living in Nevada or visiting?

Daniel Deveau: I’ve lived in Nevada since 2006. I moved here from Boston with my then-girlfriend (who’s now my wife), who is a dancer/assistant in a magic show on the strip. I wanted to pursue poker full time, and her dance and performance background made Vegas a great fit for both of us.

PocketFives: What player name do you use?

Daniel Deveau: I use voffvoffvoffon WSOP.com, and all of my online poker names have been something similar. People are always very curious about what “voff” means. My wife and I first shared an account back in 2004, and her nickname from college was Voff. I started having success under that name, and didn’t want to change it when I branched out across multiple sites, so I stuck with it. It’s sort of strange that people call me voff occasionally, since I totally stole her nickname.

PocketFives: What do you base your current successes online?

Daniel Deveau: Online poker success is about hard work, and always assuming you can get better. As soon as you stop trying to learn and improve, there will be a new batch of younger (and maybe smarter) players ready to take your place. I constantly use resources such as training sites and discussion with poker friends to make sure I’m doing everything I can to win consistently.

PocketFives: What do you like best about playing online poker?

Daniel Deveau: I just love poker in general, even after almost 10 years of playing full time. I also love the freedom and lifestyle poker has given me. I’ll never take for granted that I make my own hours and can take time off whenever I want to travel back home to Boston and visit family and friends.

PocketFives: What was you most memorable moment of 2014?

Daniel Deveau: I had a really great time this summer during the WSOP. Even though I didn’t run great in any bracelet events, it was a profitable 6 weeks, and lots of fun. Being a poker player during that time of year is so exciting, people from all over the world are here and it’s a little bittersweet when it ends. I can’t wait for the next one to start.

PocketFives: Do you have any special plans for poker in 2015?

Daniel Deveau: Nothing too special. I’d like to travel a bit for poker, which is something I’ve never really done in the past. My main goal is to put in hours both online and live, even when it starts to feel like a bit of a grind.

PocketFives: Do you plan to play at the Rio in the upcoming 2015 WSOP series?

Daniel Deveau: I do! I’ll most likely play a handful of bracelet events, with as many smaller events as I can handle packed in around them. I have no problem grinding the daily WSOP tournaments (I think they were $235 last year), and moving around to other casinos like Aria and Wynn when they have good tournaments as well.

PocketFives: Is there anything else you would like to say or tell us that has not been covered by the above?

Daniel Deveau: Just that I’m happy to represent online poker whenever I can. Shortly after Black Friday I did an interview for about 25 minutes with NPR about the life of a professional online poker player, and how people’s lives changed when our accounts were frozen. I’m always happy to give my opinion and speak about the poker community whenever I have the chance.
