PokerStars' Second $1 Million Freeroll Paying Out 75,000 Places
While PokerStars.com implemented several dramatic cost-cutting changes to its VIP, sponsorship and affiliate programs last year, no one can accuse them of being stingy with the money that they have saved as a result. With one of four planned $1 Million Freerolls already on the books this year, the online poker giant has announced that its second edition of the massive seven-figure event will go down on Sunday, July 17. Players have 10 chances to qualify for the freeroll, which pays $10,000 to first place and awards prizes to a staggering 75,000 players.
PokerStars has made winning entry into the freeroll attainable for players of all bankrolls. To qualify, users must first play one real-money hand of poker (cash game, Spin & Go, Sit & Go or MTT), make any sports wager on BetStars or place a bet in the casino from July 8-16. The following day, players are entered into an All-In Shootout, where the top 8,192 players advance to the $1 Million Freeroll.
Qualifiers are not required to be present during the Shootout, which automatically puts players’ stacks all-in until a winner is crowned. Those who would rather win their seat through a skill-based tournament can win an entry into PokerStars’ $1 Million Freeroll Skill Qualifier on July 15.
Simply complete one daily challenge on that day and, in addition to receiving an entry into an All-In Shootout, players are entered into the Skill Qualifier the next day, where 15,000 players win tickets into the main freeroll.
To get started, players can head over to their Challenges Window in the PokerStars client, opt in and complete their daily challenge. Each Shootout tournament is played out the following day at 00:04 ET, and players that finish in the top 8,192 spots are automatically registered into the $1 Million Freeroll. Players may only win one seat into the big event, so opting in to additional challenges after winning an entry won’t result in any other tickets or prizes.
The seven-figure event kicks off on July 17 at 12:04 ET, where $10,000 is earmarked for the winner. In March, during its first $1 million freeroll of the year, PokerStars awarded the first-place finisher with a $20,000 prize. By slashing the top prize in half, the company is able to pay even more players this time around.
