Sweden’s ‘C Darwin2’ continues to hold court atop the PocketFives Rankings

Just last week it appeared that Brazil’s top player, Joao ‘joaomathias’ Mathias, was set to move into the top spot in the PocketFives rankings. It appears that ‘C Darwin2’ wanted no part of that narrative.

The Swedish poker pro finished second in the PokerStars Hot $162 on Sunday to earn $10,227 but more importantly for the rankings, 186.2 PLB points. That score helped increase his lead over Mathias to 248.46 points. He has now been the #1-ranked player in the world since July 6 and this is his fifth time on top. His first time as the world’s top ranked player came in February of this year.

Mathias didn’t have a bad week either. He finished fourth in the partypoker Super High Roller on Sunday to earn $11,250 and 146 points and earlier in the week he finished third in the America’s Cardroom Sunday Special PLO for $4,223 and 104.74 points.

While those two players continue to battle for top spot, Sweden’s ‘lena900’ moved up from sixth to third this week after he recorded four PLB qualifying cashes in the last week.

The first such score came on August 11 when he took down a $320 Six Max NLHE event on PokerStars for $6,539 and 136.38 points. The next day he finished runner-up in a $109 Bounty Builder on PokerStars for $5,500 and 137.52 points. He ended the week by winning a $109 Six Max Hyper Turbo on PokerStars for $7,169 and 197.57 points and a third place finish in the Winamax High Roller for $7,330 and 129.3 points.

Despite no activity since August 4, Aleksandr ‘NoPlanB’ Mordvinov only dropped from third to fourth and maintains his spot as the top-rated player in Russia.

Rounding out the top five is Conor ‘1_conor_b_1’ Beresford. The British poker pro had two big scores this past week to help him maintain the #5 ranking. First he finished fourth in the 888 poker Baby Whale. Two days later he turned in a runner-up finish in the PokerStars Hot $215. Those two results earned him $13,805 and 266.7 PLB points.

The biggest mover in the top 10 this week is Alex ‘alexd2’ Dimitrov. The Bulgarian pro, who won two Sunday Majors back in June, continued his assault on the rankings by going from #14 to #9. He broke into the top 10 for the first time in his career after an outstanding week that saw him book his eighth largest career score, and earn three additional PLB qualifying scores.

Dimitrov took 12th in the PokerStars $1,050 Sunday Grand for $4,560 and 123.74 points, fifth in the 888 Baby Whale for $5,489 and 118.15 points before busting out big time in the partypoker Heavyweight Main Event for $24,000 and 387.3 points. He rounded out his week with a third palce finish in the PokerStars Bounty Builder for $2,553 and 96.12 points.

The only player to drop out of the top 10 this week is former 31- ranked Joao ‘joaosimaobh’ Simao who fell from #10 to #12. Simao was ranked #1 as recently as July 5.
