Just like that, Bobby ‘bcm4924’ McLawhorn is back on top. Nevada’s former #1 grinder retakes the Silver State throne after coming off an extended hiatus from the online grind. For months, at the end of 2017 and into 2018, McLawhorn was absent from the Nevada online poker scene, not having recorded a cash since early October. Well, he fired up his WSOP.com client and started crushing tournaments again.

One may think “crushing” is hyperbole, but McLawhorn registered 12 cashes from January 14 through the end of the month. He final tabled 11 of them, won 6 of them outright and finished as the runner-up in 3 more. Here’s another way to look at his January run: of those tournaments he cashed, he was in for roughly $1800 in base buy-ins (not counting possible re-entry or rebuys). He cashed for just a breath under $39,000. Also, of his 12 cashes, 11 of them brought him qualified PLB points. Of course, it doesn’t tell a complete picture but it’s safe to say, McLawhorn is back and, apparently, he hasn’t missed a beat.

Last month’s #1 ranked player, Jed ‘JCHAK’ Hoffman slips to #2, but remains well within striking distance of McLawhorn. Hoffman took a couple weeks off in the middle of the month, presumably to travel to play the World Series of Poker Circuit events at Thunder Valley in California, but managed some significant online results as well. His online grind in January was topped with a win in the WSOP.com Tuesday Showdown on January 10 for $5,702.07. He sits only 260 PLB points behind McLawhorn.

Reno, Nevada’s ‘Power’ keeps the #3 spot locked up this month. He had a sporadic month in terms of volume, after putting in a massive grind in December of 2017, but managed to add a pair of qualifying cashes to his PLB total. ‘Power’ is on the verge of eclipsing a major milestone as he’s less than $5,000 away from achieving $250,000 in lifetime earnings. He’ll have to put in a little more volume should he wish to earn it this February.

Rising four spots in the ranking to #4 is ‘wsopfreezer’. The Las Vegas grinder was doing what he does best to start the year, grinding. He recorded over 70 cashes in the month of January alone, 12 of which were good for qualifying PLB points. Five of his scores were for four-figures, the most notable being a podium finish in Tuesday Showdown on WSOP.com early in the month for over $2,900.00. If ‘wsopfreezer’ continues to push his output in comparison to those who currently rank above him, they won’t be ranking above him for long.

Where’d Joe go? Nevada’s former #1 ranked player Joe ‘JoeMomasNuts’ Mitchell slides to #5 this month however, once again, it’s based on old results. The top-tier bracelet winner hasn’t been on the online tables since early November but should he wish to come back, there’s no doubt he’ll be able to pick up where he left off.

Jason ‘Roberts34’ Roberts rose in the rankings to #6 this month. Despite light volume from Roberts he managed to pick up valuable PLB points in the few tournaments he did play. Building on a solid December, Roberts picked up $2,500 on January 1 with a runner-up performance in the WSOP.com Sunday Reloader for his largest score of 2018 so far.

Slotted in the #7 rank for Nevada is Thomas ‘Butters’ Kearney. Down a couple spots from last month, the Las Vegas player had himself a very good month, recording a hefty 79 total cashes. Six of his scores qualified for PLB points, leaving him roughly 100 points away from his former #5 rankings.

‘stuckonluck7’ (#8) and Jake ‘Wolf_51’ Didonato (#9) both slipped two spots this month as well. ‘stuckonluck7’  put in light volume but she managed to bring in roughly $3,500 in earnings. Didonato only recorded five total results in all of January but he certainly made them count. All five qualified for PLB rankings with one being a victory and another a runner-up finish.

Closing out the top 10 is ‘Sporksin’ who just surpassed $50,000 in lifetime online earnings on New Year’s Day when he took second place in the WSOP.com $20,000 Weekly Sunday for $3,400. He’s since surged into the Nevada top 10 and put together a string of 11 qualifying cashes thus far in 2018.
