Fabrizio Gonzalez sits #1 for the thirteenth straight week – but he has a new threat closing in on him

Fabrizio ‘SixthSenSe19’ Gonzalez continues to hold on to the #1 spot in the PocketFives Rankings but a familiar face has reappeared at #2.

Sweden’s ‘C Darwin2‘ took over the #2 spot after a week that saw him record five cashes big enough to add to his PLB total, including the second biggest PLB points score of his career. ‘C Darwin2’ beat out 329 other players to win the $530 buy-in partypoker High Roller on Tuesday, December 27. The win was worth $31,928 and 406.2 PLB points – the most he’s scored since winning a PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (High) title in May 2016 for 572.68 points.

He continued to prove the heater was real on December 27 with a win in the parytpoker Drago: Heavyweight for $3,750/122.47 and a runner-up finish in the PokerStars Hot $215 for $7,586/153.03. Two days later he took down the partypoker Uppercut: Heavyweight for $9,488/226.5. He closed out the week with a New Year’s Day runner-up finish in the partypoker Drago: Heavyweight for $,4288/115.03.

All told, ‘C Darwin2’, who last held the #1 spot in September, boosted his PLB points total by 1,023.23 points and now finds himself just 176.02 points behind Gonzalez and one spot above the previous #2, Alex ‘alexd2’ Dimitrov. The Uruguayan grinder, who has been #1 for 13 straight weeks, had just seven cashes this week but none were big enough to add to his lead.

Dimitrov meanwhile cashed 18 times but failed to find a single score big enough to add to his total and fell to #3 for the first time since mid-October. Spots 4-9 remained unchanged but a new player emerged in the top 10 for the first time in his career.

Argentinean Cristian ‘Progre69’ Sampaoli had three cashes good enough to add to his PLB total and move him into the #10 spot. Two of them came just minutes apart on December 27. Sampaoli finished runner-up in the PokerStars Hot $162 for $$4,813 and 121.2 PLB points. He followed that up with an 11th place finish in the PokerStars $109 Mini Super Tuesday for $1,360/94.89. Two days later he won the PokerStars $109 Hyper Turbo for $4,562 and 153.85 points. Sampaoli had been sitting just outside the top 10 at #11 since December 21.

After making his way back into the top just before the end of 2016, Conor ‘1_conor_b_1’ Beresford dropped out of the top 10 this week, falling to #11.
