Despite spending all week at the PokerStars Championship Bahamas, Fabrizio ‘SixthSenSe19’ Gonzalez held on to the top spot.(PokerStars photo)

It’s been 14 weeks since somebody other than Fabrizio ‘SixthSenSe19’ Gonzalez has held down the #1 spot in the PocketFives Worldwide Rankings. Gonzalez held on to the top spot this week despite the fact he played a full schedule at the PokerStars Championship Bahamas.

Despite just five cashes – and none big enough to add to his PLB score – Gonzalez still held off challenges from ‘C Darwin2’ and Alex ‘alexd2’ Dimitrov.

‘C Darwin2’, one of four Swedish players in the top 10, started the week off in the right way with a win in the PokerStars Hot $162 for $7,062 and 191.31 points. Despite 14 more cashes during the week however, he was unable to find another result good enough to add to his total.

Dimitrov also had a slow week – one of his slowest in recent memory. The Bulgarian grinder, known for playing a higher volume than others in the top 10, cashed just seven times and not a single one helped him close the gap on ‘C Darwin2’ or Gonzalez.

The next Swede in the rankings, ‘lena900’, had 34 in-the-money finishes but only one, where he took fourth place in the partypoker High Roller on January 4, was good enough to add to his points total. He walked away from that event with $8,147 in cash and 141.72 points.

The top five is rounded out by the #1 player out of Brazil, Joao Mathias ‘joaomathias’ Baumgarten. The former #1-ranked Baumgarten had 35 cashes this past week and just like other above him in the standings, only one was good enough to count toward his total. Finishing sixth in the partypoker Heavyweight on January 8, Baumgarten won $6,875 and added 120.66 points.

The only player to move into the top 10 this week was Conor ‘1_conor_b_1’ Beresford. The UK-grinder moved up to #10 from #11, swapping places with Cristian ‘progre69’ Sampaoli, thanks to a win in the PokerStars $55 Six Max Progressive KO event on January 9. He added $2,066 to his bankroll but also an additional 107.59 PLB points to his total. He’s now 53.46 ahead of Sampaoli.
