‘Joao Mathias ‘joaomathias’ Baumgarten retook the #1 spot this week for the first time since 2015

For 10 straight weeks Sweden’s ‘C Darwin2‘ held down the #1 spot on the PocketFives Rankings and fought off all of those who came calling for the crown. Well that streak is over now after Brazilian Joao Mathias ‘joaomathias’ Baumgarten put together a solid enough week to climb all the way up from #4 to #1.

Baumgarten’s move was largely thanks to an amazing run on September 13. In the span of just a few hours he finished eighth in the $1,050 buy-in World Championship of Online Poker Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo Championship for $8,455 and 176.33 PLB points, third in the PokerStars $215 buy-in Fat Tuesday for $15,229 and 204.96 points and finally topping the 284-player field in the Volcano on 888 poker for $32,252 and 404.16 points. He wasn’t done there though. Later in the week Baumgarten was runner up in the Hot $44 on PokerStars for $3,640/113.35 and then runner-up in the partypoker Super High Roller on Sunday for $34,500/274.02.

‘C Darwin2’ fell only one spot. He remains with striking distance of top spot thanks to three big scores over the last seven days. The Swedish poker pro finished 22nd in the WCOOP $10,300 High Roller for $43,074/295.31, took second place in the $109 Bubble Rush on PokerStars and then third in partypoker Powerfest High Roller for $26,400/265.78. He sits just 103.63 behind Baumgarten.

Another player who made a big jump is Alex ‘alexd2’ Dimitrov. The Buglarian went from #5 to #3 this week and unlike most of his colleagues, improved his position with the benefit of a massive WCOOP score. Dimitrov started the week off winning the 888 poker Tornado for $6,622 and 174.62 points. He then won the partypoker Powerfest Six Max High Roller, earning $22,167 and 298.33 on Thursday. That same day he finished runner-up in the Winamax High Roller event for $6,012/119.87. He then picked up another $5,075 and 163.03 points thanks to a seventh place finish in the PokerStars Sunday SuperSonic. This marks the third time that Dimitrov has climbed all the way to #3 – his career high.

While Baumgarten and Dimitrov moved up this week, none of the top five fell out of that group. ‘C Darwin2’ fell one spot to #2 while another Swede, ‘lena900’ dropped from #2 to #5. There was just as much movement in spots #6 – #10 even though no new players cracked the top 10.

Johannes ‘Greenstone25’ Korsar moved up from #9 to #6. Korsar had two big scores this week. He finished second in the PokerStars.fr Half Million event for $68,696 and 531.85 points. Then on Sunday he recorded a fifth place finish in WCOOP Event #51, $1,050 Six Max No Limit Hold’em. That earned the Swedish pro $30,618 and 354.92 points. This marks a career-best ranking for Korsar, one of five Swedish players in the top 10.

Another one of those Swedes is right behind Korsar. Andreas ‘r4ndomr4gs’ Berggen moved from #10 to #7 this week and he also has a WCOOP score to thank. Berggen finished eighth in WCOOP Event #35, $1,575 Super Tuesday Special Edition for $33,218 and 387.69 points. The next day he conquered the field in the partypoker PowerFest Six Max Turbo High Roller for $15,626.
