We all know that members of the online poker community have enjoyed a tremendous amount of success when it comes to No Limit Hold’em. However, PocketFivers have also come to dominate non-Hold’em games. Take the U.K.’s sabby(pictured), for example, who came away with the win in a $322 Seven-Game tournament during the recently completed Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) for nearly $40,000. PocketFives.com caught up with sabby as he was being fitted for his very first jersey.

His FTOPS win blew his largest cash out of the water and he told us that he’s long been fond of Mixed Games: “I really enjoy playing Mixed Games. I’ve been playing a lot of $5/$10 and $2.50/$5 Ten-Game last month or two. They are something different than just the everyday grind of No Limit Hold’em.” He’s a Triple Crown winner here on PocketFives.com to boot, which requires a player to win three $10,000 prize pool tournaments across three sites in a one-week span.

On his keys to success in large Mixed Games fields like the ones you’ll find during a major tournament series, sabby told us, “I just take it one hand at a time and play a lot tighter in the games I feel are my weakest like Razz and Limit Hold’em. I was one-tabling this after the first hour until the end, so I was focusing on every hand at the table. It’s not like I’m weak at Razz and Limit Hold’em, just not as strong in those as in the others.”

How about the fields that turn out for Mixed events? Are they solid, weak, or somewhere in between? sabby shared his experience: “I haven’t played a lot of them, as I don’t usually play big buy-in ones since the times of them are rubbish for us Europeans. The fields in them are generally really soft, though. At the final table in the FTOPS event, I felt there were three strong players including myself.”

On his opponents, sabby critiqued, “A lot of guys are good at two or three of the games and really weak and exploitable in the others. It is very rare that you find somebody who is solid in all seven games. I think the whole way through it, I came across three guys who I felt were strong in all of the games.” Over 550 players turned out and the top 56 finished in the money.

About four years ago, his stepfather introduced him to poker. Two years later, he attended college and deposited on Full Tilt Poker. In 2009, after several unsuccessful attempts at building a bankroll, sabby righted the ship and started playing seriously. He’s been a self-proclaimed poker pro for two years.

Last September, he final tabled the Sunday Brawl for $9,000. In October, he won the Full Tilt $50 Rebuy for $8,800. He’s currently 27th in the PocketFives.com Sortable Rankings for the U.K. and, needless to say, the FTOPS win serves as his breakthrough performance.

sabby confessed that he “owes a lot” to fellow PocketFives.com member pokerproplaya08, who calls Florida home. pokerproplaya08 is fresh off a runner-up finish in Event #6 of FTOPS XIX, a $322 No Limit Hold’em Six-Max Turbo Shootout, for $42,000.

He wanted to close by singling out the Mixed Game prowess of Larry Bertleman and unnoffensivenick. The recent FTOPS champ also wanted to send a shout out to his friends at ChipMeUp.

A wealth of PocketFives.com members came out on top during FTOPS XIX – 22 to be exact. Check out all of our FTOPS XIX results and congratulations to everyone who cashed!
