SCOOP: Charlie ‘Epiphany77’ Carrel Wins Main Event (High), $1.2M
One of the most hotly anticipated final tables in online poker history included some of the game’s best players, a former #1-ranked PocketFiver, a power outage and a negotiation for over $2.3M before Charlie ‘Epiphany77’ Carrel emerged victorious in the PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker Main Event (High) for just over $1.2M.
The final table included former #1-ranked player ‘C. Darwin2’, Harrison ‘gibler321’ Gimbel, Connor ‘blanconegro’ Drinnan, Carrel, Emil ‘Maroonlime’ Patel and ‘€urop€an‘.
A few minutes before play was set to resume on Tuesday, Drinnan tweeted that he, and one other unnamed player (later confirmed to Carrel) was in the midst of a city-wide power outage in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

The tournament was paused, but after a 30-minute delay all players had power and the tournament resumed. Once it did, it didn’t take too long for just two players to be left in contention for the $1.356 million first place prize, but as many expected the final two players, Carrel and Gimbel, quickly came to terms on a chop. Gimbel walked away with $1,122,873.99 secured and Carrel had $1,100,899.99 locked up and eventually won the $100,000 left to play for.
The Medium version went to ‘ROFLshove’ for $787,312.19 while the Low version saw ‘madalain’ walk away with $221,516.37 for an outright victory.
