This week, the PocketFives Podcastis pleased to welcome two-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner Scott BigRiskky Clements (pictured). He took the $3,000 Omaha High-Low event during the 2006 WSOP for $301,000 and then followed that performance up with a $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha title one year later. Clements has been part of the PocketFives community since 2005.

The discussion with Clements kicked off by focusing on open-limping in tournaments. Clements revealed, “Usually early in tournaments, I do a lot of open-limping. I think it really comes from my live experience where I’m playing against a lot of weak opponents… I like to limp and play a lot of pots so when I do hit, I can have one of the players pay me off… If I limp and then have them pay me off when I hit, then it’s a lot more valuable to me.”

He added, “I’ve always liked playing post-flop, so I don’t know if that comes from Omaha… I always like to play hands out and see where the story leads me to believe what someone else has. Pre-flop, it can be so many different hands.” In February, Clements’ post-flop skills contributed to a win in the Full Tilt Online Poker Series Two-Day Event for nearly $300,000.

Clements is a Full Tilt Poker Red Pro, which comes with a bounty on his head and a considerable amount of attention. Clements explained how he’s forced to change up his game plan: “It’s kind of ridiculous sometimes. It makes it so much more valuable for me to shove… I should shove A-5 because I might get called by 10-6 suited. It makes it harder for me because I have less fold equity against a certain amount of players. It really comes into play in Omaha too.”

According to the Hendon Mob, Clements’ first live cash came in 2005. Since then, he’s piled up $4.4 million in live earnings and another $1.5 million in online scores tracked by PocketFives.com. What motivates the poker veteran? “It’s tough sometimes when you win big… I really try to set new goals for myself every time something like that happens, granted there have been times when I haven’t played my best because it doesn’t seem as big after a big win.”

He’s aligned himself with some of the game’s best, including Jason treysfull21Mercier (pictured), who is fresh off back-to-back wins in the PokerStarsNorth American Poker Tour Mohegan Sun Bounty Shootout. “When I’m on the live circuit, I talk with a few friends of mine like Jason Mercier,” Clements told us. “I talk a lot with Jason because I really respect his game… Also, when I’m online, I do a lot with PokerXFactor. I like to try to see what everyone’s doing, so I watch whatever videos I can when I have some time.”

In October 2006, Clements took down the World Poker Tour’s North American Poker Championships for $222,000. “That was just a huge boost in everything,” Clements recollected. “In 2006 and 2007, I felt like… I played my best poker. Going into that event, I had a lot of success, but it was a great thing to finally get that huge win of my career. I felt like I played really well.”

Finally, we all know that Clements boasts one of the top Omaha games on the planet. He’s made six WSOP final tables in Omaha events and captured two bracelets, but Clements also sports a solid No Limit Hold’em tournament resume. What separates his Hold’em game from the rest? “I just play at the table. I don’t have anything that’s giving me stats. That would probably be something that sets me apart from a lot of the other pros.”
