The month of February was mighty kind to Espen shfourshankSorlie (pictured), who brought home a pair of Triple Crownsto his home nation of Norway. His first came after winning the PokerStars.fr Minuit Expressfor $3,100, a $50 buy-in tournament on Ongame for $3,200, and the PartyPoker $10,000 Guaranteed Speed for $4,900. The three wins combined for 388 PLB Points and while most players would take a break, Sorlie did exactly the opposite.

And by “exactly the opposite,” we mean win another Triple Crown – immediately. In mid-February, Sorlie took down the 888 Poker $10,000 Guaranteed Hurricanefor $2,700. On the same day, he emerged with a win in the PokerStars $11 Rebuy for $3,800. One day later, he was back at it on Ongame, this time winning a $100 buy-in tournament for $4,100. Just like that, he had recorded two Triple Crowns in a span of 10 days.

PocketFives caught up with Sorlie after Triple Crown #1. He told us that he was the first player in his stable to earn the shiny profile badge: “It feels great. I’m in a very good stable and being the first one to take down a Triple Crown is amazing. We’ve had a lot of sweats, but nobody managed to take one down before now.” He has zoomed up to #193 worldwide in the PocketFives Rankings and was down five spots last week.

On the Minuit Express on PokerStars.fr, Sorlie recalled, “I had a very bad day up until then, but Hypers are pretty easy as long as you run like God. It felt very good to save the day in one of the last tables of the day. I can’t really remember any specific hands, but it was pretty much just shove or fold spots all the way.”

His first Triple Crown adventure then took him to EuroPoker, which along with sites like bwin appears on the Ongame Network. “That was a $50 Turbo,” Sorlie said about the tournament. “I think it was my first score on Ongame, so it felt good to get going there. I’ve recently started playing on sites like 888 and Ongame and it’s always nice when you start winning right away.”

His final tournament “W” for his first award came on PartyPoker. He shared his mindset heading into the home stretch, “I had a Triple Crown sweat for one or two weeks before this and I remember being very short throughout the whole tournament. I guess I just ran very good at the final table to take it down.”

There was a noticeable spike in interest in 888when we added the room to the Rankings last August. Now, players like Sorlie are signing up for it in droves. We asked him for his thoughts on 888 only a few weeks removed from registering: “I only play four of five tournaments there a day, but I think it is a great addition to the grind and I am very satisfied with it. I play the Hurricane ($109), the Tornado ($109), the Monsoon ($55), and the $1,800 Turbo ($35). They seem a bit softer than, for example, the PokerStars $109s and fit nicely into my daily schedule.”

By the way, if playing tournaments named after natural disasters sounds like a hoot, you can sign up for 888 through PocketFivesand get a 100% up to $600 deposit bonus instead of the usual 100% up to $400. You’ll also get $8 in free money and one free month of PocketFives Trainingwith the sign-up fee waived if you make a deposit. The latter perk is worth $65 by itself. Get started.

As if all this success in February weren’t enough, we should point out that Sorlie only started playing poker full-time in January: “I played a lot in 2011, but didn’t quit my studies before now. My studies didn’t go really well while playing 10 hours a day at the same time, so I decided that I wanted to take a shot at it. I’m very happy with the decision so far and am considering moving to Belfast this summer.”

Sorlie is #4 in the PocketFives Sortable Rankingsfor Norway, which can be found at #14 in the Country Poker Rankings. Sorlie accounts for one-quarter of Norway’s eight Triple Crowns and he’s one of nearly 800 PocketFivers that call the Scandinavian country home.
