Last month, Denmark’s Soren Smith (pictured), known on PocketFives as YukoEgawa, won his first Triple Crownafter victories in the PartyPoker$12,500 Guaranteed, Ladbrokes Mosh Pit, and PokerStars$7,500 Guaranteed. The three victories were worth about 370 PLB Points combined, but more importantly, they inched him closer to his brother, moumaife84, who owns three Triple Crown titles.

“I’m happy to get a Triple Crown,” Smith told PocketFives in an exclusive interview. “I was close earlier this year, but I needed to win on PartyPoker or Ongame, but didn’t. This time, I was glad I had PokerStars for the last MTT because almost every MTT has over a $10,000 prize pool there.” In the end, the prize pool of the PokerStars $7,500 Guaranteed almost lapped $11,000 and a Triple Crown was his.

In the middle of his Triple Crown run, Smith turned in two wins on Ladbrokes on the same day in the Mosh Pit and Big Night In. He recalled, “I love those tournaments. They are on my schedule every day and it’s the fifth time this year I’ve won the Big Night In on Ladbrokes. It was a pretty epic night.” The entire Triple Crown process lasted 48 hours.

moumaife84 has three Triple Crowns, the most recent of which came in early November. When asked about moumaife84’s influence on his game, Smith explained, “Skrigepas (pictured), moumaife84, and I talk a lot about hands and swap percentages. I think they are the two people who have had the biggest influence on my game.”

“I started playing home games with friends and it didn’t go too well,” Smith said of the origins of his poker career. “Then, I started playing online. I’m always going for the win, trying to get Triple Crowns, and getting ranked the highest I can on PocketFives.” Smith is currently #210 worldwide in the PocketFives Poker Rankings, while his brother sits at #83. Smith is #6 in Denmark, while his brother is #2.

Smith’s largest tracked score to date was worth $34,000 and came by virtue of a win in the PokerStars Big $162 in mid-May. He had eight scores of at least $10,000 in 2013 and said he’s almost exclusively playing MTTs nowadays. He used to sprinkle in sit and gos, but said, “I have always played MTTs, but the times I played sit and gos, my bankroll was low, so I cleared some bonuses.” His lifetime cash total checks in at $836,000.

Meanwhile, moumaife84’s career cash total is $2.5 million, about 60% of which has come on PokerStars. His all-time high rank on PocketFives is #18, which occurred last year, and he is averaging about $1,000 per in the money finish.

Away from poker, Smith spends time with family and friends, watches movies, and said, “I played some soccer when I was younger, but now I’m only playing it with friends when I have time.” He joined PocketFives in the final month of 2012.

In 2014, Smith doesn’t have any specific goals for poker, but explained, “I’m just trying to get better. I feel like I understand the game more and more every day. I just hope I can keep improving.”
