Smeckten just won his fourth PocketFives Triple Crown

In recent days, Sweden’s Smecktenwon his fourth PocketFives Triple Crown, his first of 2015. If you’re not familiar with the award, a Triple Crown requires a person to win three $10,000 prize pool tournaments across three sites tracked for the PocketFives Rankings within a week. Each tournament must have at least 100 players and a real money buy-in. Satellites do not count.

Smeckten has won seven tournaments since December 3 and started his fourth Triple Crown run by taking down the PartyPoker Heavyweight Weigh-Inon December 14 for $2,600 and 110 PLB Points, the metric used to determine our Rankings. The same day, he won the €15,000 Grand Monday on Betfair, adding another $4,100 to his coffers along with 134 PLB Points.

Three days later, his Triple Crown quest was complete, this time after a victory in the PokerStars.fr Night on Stars, which earned him almost $4,000 and 135 PLB Points. All told, his fourth Triple Crown meant a bankroll boost of almost $11,000.

Smeckten told PocketFives about his latest Triple Crown, “I’m feeling good about it. I guess it’s some kind of evidence that you’re doing something well and running hot. I don’t put that much effort into Triple Crowns normally, as I’m more thrilled about the regular Rankings, but in general I feel great about the way I played and how I have been running lately.”

The Swede is up to 86 tracked wins. Three of his four Triple Crowns have come in the month of December:

December 1, 2013 on PokerStars, PokrStars.fr, and Winamax for 606.92 points
August 19, 2014 on PartyPoker, Full Tilt, and PokerStars.fr for 715.84 points
December 13, 2014 on PokerStars.fr, PokerStars, and Full Tilt for 511.12 points
December 14, 2015 on PartyPoker, Betfair, and PokerStars.fr for 379.82 points

Smeckten is $68,000 shy of hitting $4 million in career online tournament winnings, the largest of which was worth $161,000 and came by virtue of final tabling a SCOOP $1,050 No Limit Hold’em Wrap-Up event last year. He has wins in the 888 Volcano, PokerStars Sunday 500, PokerStars Sunday Second Chance, PartyPoker Sunday Major, and PokerStars Thursday Thrill, just to name a few:
