You have to love the ability of poker players to travel. A person’s home city is in some cases irrelevant, as they can travel the world in the blink of an eye and the swipe of a credit card. Take Norway’s theding, for example, who won a recent running of the Ongame $100K Guaranteed. He is originally from Norway, but now makes his home part-time halfway around the world in Macau (pictured). Best life ever?

Let’s start with the Ongame $100K. The April 7 edition brought out a field that fell just shy of 750, blasting through its guarantee by $42,000. theding told us that he doubled up early on and chipped up as the bubble approached. Then, “I ran into a bunch of hands and was short for a good while before two fortunate coolers went my way. I also had a pretty good table draw where I could just win most pots until I got closer to the final table.”

He managed to double up when 15 players remained when his A-Q outlasted K-Q and entered the final 10 at #3 on the leaderboard. He explained that despite being one of the top dogs in chips, “I ended up playing pretty snug because the table was one of the more laggy ones I’ve seen. I had good timing and won most pots I played during the final table. I started heads-up with the lead, but immediately doubled up my opponent to give him a 10:1 chip lead, but kept cool and grinded him down.”

He plays on Ongame, which includes sites like Betsafe, under the screen name –nino–. The network’s weekly $100K has a $200 buy-in and players start out with 5,000 in chips at blinds of 10-20. Each level stretches for 20 minutes. “It doesn’t really skip too many levels like some Euro sites are known for,” theding revealed.

He added, “The field is quite a bit more attractive than at PokerStarsor Full Tilt, like most Euro sites, with a bunch of recreational players, even though I didn’t see too many of them deep. I guess the structure has something to do with that.” His largest tracked score to date came over on Full Tilt in the Sunday Brawl in 2010 for $38,000.

As we said at the top, theding is originally from Norway and now plays live cash games in Macau. He commented, “I was studying for a bit before playing poker full-time for the last five years. I’m actually living mostly in Macau playing live cash games for the last four or five months, but I’m in Norway at the moment and the focus is mostly on online MTTs poker-wise.” That’s a lot of frequent flyer miles for the Norway poker community standout.

A couple of theding’s friends were camped out in Macau, prompting him to head many thousands of miles away from Norway. He told us, “I had always wanted to go, so I ended up going there for APPT Macau last fall with athilla(pictured) and toroweand liked it very much. The games are not the same as they were in the beginning, I guess, but they are still very good. After not having too much success in MTTs the last year, it was good to go somewhere else and experience something besides Norway.”

He got his start in poker in high school playing with friends and then eventually migrated online. He is now nearing $750,000 in tracked cashes in online poker MTTs in his PocketFives profile, over two-thirds of which has come on PokerStars, where you can find him playing under the user name tollefishy.

He wanted to send a congratulatory shout out to athilla, who took down the 888 Poker Major a couple hours after his victory on Ongame. That sounds like a pretty good day in the flat.
