On October 24, Taylor taypaurPaur (pictured) added another major online tournament victory to his impressive resume by taking down the PokerStars Sunday 500. The $500+30 buy-in, $500,000 guaranteed prize pool tournament attracted a field of 1,027 entrants and, when the smoke cleared, Paur bested a highly talented table that included 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event champion Joe jcada99 Cada. Paur pulled down $88,000 for the win, while Cada landed in eighth place for just over $10,000. PocketFives.com caught up with Paur to dissect his most recent triumph.

Paur, the #3 player in the PocketFives.com Online Poker Rankings, has racked up wins in just about every major tournament you can name. He owns UB.comOnline Championship (UBOC) and Full TiltOnline Poker Series (FTOPS) titles to go along with victories in the Sunday Brawl, Absolute Poker $100,000 Guarantee, $1K Monday, and PokerStars Nightly Hundred Grand. In fact, he won the latter tournament on the same night as his victory in the Sunday 500 for a combined bankroll injection of $110,000.

Paur gave PocketFives.com his approach to the high-dollar Sunday 500 on PokerStars: “It’s a Sunday tournament, so usually in the beginning stages, it’s about like anything else for me because I’m kind of auto piloting and probably playing relatively tight. I would say oftentimes I just have to be wary of getting way too out of line because good regulars won’t let me get away with as much as random players do.” In the month of October alone, Paur has banked over $150,000 in Rankings-eligible MTTs.

In a hand against Cada (pictured), whose stay at the final table was a short one, Paur 3bet pre-flop with A-K and Cada shoved all-in for a 4bet with K-Q suited. On the reigning Main Event champ and PokerStars pro’s play, Paur told PocketFives.com, “It seemed perfectly fine. I think he had 25 big blinds and I was chip leader at the time the hand happened.”

The Sunday 500 marked the latest impressive score for Paur, whose claims to fame include four six-figure paydays in major online poker tournaments. He explained, however, that winning the PokerStars tournament carries a high degree of prestige: “This is actually one of my favorite scores because of the timing. It was during a huge downswing and I’ve really wanted to win the 500 because I just find it to be a cool tournament. It’s regarded as one of the tougher fields online and the structure is really good, so it tends to play really deep late.”

In part due to the Sunday 500 win, Paur moved to #3 worldwide in the Rankings and owns the second best Pro Pollscore in the land. Sitting at first and second on the leaderboard, respectively, are Chris Gettin DaizeOliver and Jordan Jymaster0011 Young (pictured). The former has held the top spot ever since August 18th, while Young has steadily climbed towards the top of the pack.

On the #1 and #2 players in the Rankings, Paur commented, “I think they are both really good. Gettin Daize is an absurd grinder who is somehow able to grind a lot of tournaments and low buy-ins day in and day out. He plays an unreal number of tables and somehow still plays really well. I think he’s one of the most creative players online, if not the most creative. Jymaster0011 plays really aggressively and also tries to be unorthodox and tricky at times, which I think is good.”

We talked to Paur following Game 1 of the Major League Baseball World Series between the San Francisco Giants and Texas Rangers. Paur, a California native, is rooting for his beloved Giants: “Their team is sick. I’ve lived here my whole life and been a Giants fan for a long time now. I tend to be very positive about my teams, so I always expect big things.” So far, so good.
