Helio ‘hneves182’ Neves won the opening 2016 TCOOP event

There’s nothing like winning a five- or six-figure first place prize in a matter of hours. But, when you’re playing large-field turbos, it’s certainly possible. Thursday, in fact, saw several big winners as part of the first official day of the PokerStars Turbo Championship of Online Poker, or TCOOP.

The centerpiece of Thursday’s four events was a $27 No Limit Hold’em Six-Max Three-Phase tournament, the first three-phase event ever run by PokerStars. It attracted 53,311 total entries and over 9,000 players qualified for Phase 3, which played out on Thursday. It took four-and-a-half hours for Brazil’s Helio ‘hneves182‘ Neves to bust everyone at the final table en route to a $111,000 payday and his first COOP title.

“I just looked at the lobby and realized the tournament was four-and-a-half hours,” said Neves. “I definitely thought it had been over eight hours. You lose track of time while deep in a tournament.”

Event #2 was a four-hour, $82 No Limit Omaha H/L tournament that attracted 1,649 entrants. It took less than an hour to reach the money bubble and a five-way deal was struck that included 2015 WCOOP Super High Roller fourth place finisher ‘Nopaleva‘, who also took fourth in TCOOP Event #2. The winner was Hungary’s ‘rekri’, who made $12,000.

The third TCOOP event held on Thursday was a $215 No Limit Hold’em Turbo Progressive Ultra-Knockout that had 4,250 entries. Australia’s ‘ugr italy‘ took it down for $33,363.40 plus $24,591.48 in bounties, a total of almost $58,000. One-quarter of the buy-in went to the prize pool, while the rest was put on each player’s head as a bounty.

The fourth and final tournament to play out on TCOOP’s opening day was an $82 No Limit Hold’em Turbo that had a 20-minute final table. There were over 4,000 entrants and Germany’s ‘makarios007‘ came away with the win after holding a nearly insurmountable 17:1 chip lead heads-up against Canada’s ‘deepbluer‘.
