Recently, Luis Alberto Montano Rodriguez (pictured), known as Fizhhon PocketFives, came in second place in the PokerStars Sunday Million and cashed for $155,000. There was no chop to be had and Rodriguez, who calls Mexico home, outlasted over 7,000 opponents. We caught up with him to break down his big day.

PocketFives: How are you feeling about your big Sunday Million score?

Luis Alberto Montano Rodriguez: I feel great. This is the score I have been looking for and it finally happened after several deep runs in important tournaments. This is a win that’s about dedication and perseverance and accomplished by passion.

PocketFives: Do you have any plans for the money?

Luis Alberto Montano Rodriguez: I am working on opening my own Italian restaurant in Mexicali, Mexico. This score will help me tremendously to invest in the business.

PocketFives: Walk us through how the final table went. Where did you enter in chips and how did it go?

Luis Alberto Montano Rodriguez: I was second in chips entering the final table. The chip leader and I had half of the chips in play. There was a crucial hand I played against him where I had the nut flush against the second nut flush. That hand crippled him and I pretty much locked in a top three spot.

PocketFives: How will this score fundamentally change your poker career?

Luis Alberto Montano Rodriguez: Good events are coming up soon, with SCOOP around the corner. I plan to play that series on a beach in Mexico with friends. I also qualified for the WSOP Main Event the same day on another website. I’m very excited about that as well. LAPT Peru is one of the stops I wouldn’t want to miss either.

PocketFives: Do you play full-time?

Luis Alberto Montano Rodriguez: I have played full-time since 2013 after getting my degree in Economics. I had recently stopped playing regularly to start my own business. It looks like the break I took paid off.

PocketFives: How did you get started in poker? What got you interested in it?

Luis Alberto Montano Rodriguez: I started playing poker in 2010. Like a lot of people, I first started playing freerolls and ran up my bankroll, moving from micro-stakes sit and gos to low-stakes and mid-stakes MTTs. I qualified for LAPT Chile in 2012 through an $11 satellite and made a deep run in the Main Event, busting in 18th. I decided to play a satellite to the High Roller, qualified, and ended up winning it. That was my biggest score prior to my recent score in the Sunday Million.

PocketFives: What else do you do besides poker? What else interests you?

Luis Alberto Montano Rodriguez: I love traveling to different cities to play tournaments and walk around. It’s exciting to get to know different cultures and the food of those places.

PocketFives: Do you have any shout outs?

Luis Alberto Montano Rodriguez: I want to send a special thanks to Hector triger02Acedo, Eduardo cope769Bernal, and Julio jucetoor18 Torres (pictured) for their support throughout this adventure.
