Earlier this month, the W Series on Winamaxfeatured a $119 No Limit Hold’em Six-Max Turbo that drew a field of nearly 1,000 players. Coming out on top when all was said and done was Hungary’s Greyboy, who earned $24,000, the second largest MTT cash PocketFives has tracked for him. Winamax is the newest addition to the PocketFives Rankingsand running an EU-only leaderboard promotion in October, so we wanted to get the scoop on the site and on Greyboy’s big W Series victory.

In the early stages of the W Series event, Greyboy told us that he was seated at rather difficult tables, which made barreling through the crowd all the more difficult. However, he persevered and was the chip leader when two tables remained. He candidly told us in an exclusive interview, “I could terrorize other players easily because of the huge difference in the prize money.”

Greyboy was the lone member of the PocketFives community to make the final table. He dropped half of his chips when he lost two coin flips with A-Q (ESPN poker commentator Norman Chad’s least favorite hand) and after that, he had fallen from first place to second. He added, “I got lucky when I shoved with K-J and J-J called from the big blind and a king came on the flop. After that hand, I was chip leader again and it was easier.”

He offered a deal heads-up against Winamax player ihatestakewhen Greyboy had 10.5 million in chips to 7.5 million. However, no accord was struck and the two played on. Greyboy said the blinds in the Six-Max Turbo escalated every six minutes, but “I prefer Turbo MTTs, so I liked it.”

Hungary (pictured) is #22 worldwide in the PocketFives Country Poker Rankings. There are 769 players with PLB scores from the European nation and Greyboy is the top ranked player in the hamlet of Tatabánya, the capital of Komárom-Esztergom County. He said of players in Hungary, “Poker is very popular here. People look at poker like a job because we have really low salaries in Hungary. An average person earns €400 to €600 per month and two million people out of the population of 10 million live on €250 or less per month.”

He has 378 tracked scores in his PocketFives profile, the largest of which was worth $25,000 and came in the Winamax Main Event in July. Despite all of his success, does the greater Hungarian populous view poker in a positive light? “Most people think we are shady,” Greyboy commented. “They think poker is gambling. But, there are also well-informed people who know better.”

Greyboy got his start in poker seven years ago after watching the game unfold on television. He started playing with friends and then poker clubs opened in Hungary, but the government shut them down. He told us, “Now, clubs are legal again, but they need to pay a lot in taxes.” Outside of poker, he hangs out with his girlfriend.
