Patrick ‘prepstyle71’ Serda won 2,930.71 for taking down the PLO Championship

Thursday’s World Championship of Online Poker action included a No Limit Hold‘em tournament, a Pot Limit Omaha Championship and a low buy-in HORSE event. Each tournament smashed its guarantee, underscoring PokerStars’ strength in the online poker world, as well as the popularity of the series.

The first event to finish up yesterday was a $530 buy-in No Limit Hold‘em tournament with rebuys. On Day 1, players made a total of 345 rebuys and 289 add-ons, pumping up the prize pool to $502,500, easily surpassing the event’s $300,000 guarantee. Only 24 players remained at the end of the first day, including poker pros Felix ‘ZhipOHoy’ Stephensen and Ole ‘wizowizo’ Schemion. In the end it was Netherlands’ ‘marcasa’ who came out on top to win the $91,540 first-place prize and add his first WCOOP title to his resume.

A modest field of 406 grinders turned up for the $2,100 Pot Limit Omaha Championship Six Max event. The extremely tough field made a total of 169 reentries, bumping up the prize pool to $1,150,000, more than double its $500,000 guarantee.

Highlighting the level of competition in the tournament, EPT5 Copenhagen champion and 2016 WSOP PLO Highroller bracelet winner Jens ‘Jeans89’ Kyllonen busted out in ninth place, leaving two-time WSOP bracelet winner Mike ‘gordo16’ Gorodinsky and five others to battle for the healthy $202,930 first-place prize. After a grueling hour-long heads-up match, Patrick ‘prepstyle71’ Serda finally pulled away from his Dutch opponent, ‘Bullitos’, winning the championship and the six-figure top prize.

Event #64 was a $320 HORSE tournament that drew 356 runners and exceeded it $75,000 guarantee by more than $30,000 for total prize pool of $106,800. Five-time COOP champ ‘aDrENalin710’ of Russia once again proved his skills in mixed game tournaments by defeating the UK’s ‘LUFCBas’ for the title and $17,848. The victory gives the Russian six total COOP wins and adds to his first-place finish in the $1,050 Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo Championship, for which he took home $63,780 earlier this month.
