What kind of car do you drive? That very question was the subject of discussion in a thread that appeared in Poker Discussionright around the New Year. With PocketFives.com members looking to upgrade, downgrade, and change their rides in 2010, we thought it’d be amusing to recap some of the highlights of the car thread, which Massachusetts online poker player thousandwatt created. So what is it that online poker players are cruising around in? High-end luxury vehicles? Hand-me-down sedans? Let’s find out.

New York PocketFives.com member AGGRECIV revealed that his parking space sports a BMW 340HP and 540 HP. He added, “thats where my screen name came from… used to be my plate… cops loved it.” In August, AGGRECIV finished third in the Full Tilt Poker $35,000 Guaranteed for $5,600, good enough for over 2,000 gallons of gas at the national average in the United States. The 540 HP can be seen to the left of this paragraph.
Gardar eatyourstack Hauksson rides around Iceland in a sleek black Corvette C6 Coupe (pictured at right). His December win in the Full Tilt Poker $750,000 Guaranteed added $119,000 to his bankroll, plenty of money to help offset the cost of owning the sporty vehicle. Eric highlite11 Nagel responded to Hauksson’s picture of a ritzy Corvette with an image of a black 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport. He joked, “It once had automatic windows and locks and had 4 hubcaps but those days have passed… 133k miles… Sony CD player with 3 workin buttons and 2 12inch subs that do still work… just a beast.”

Absolute Pokerpro Matt Plattsburgh Vengrin can be seeing cruising around in a black Lexus IS (pictured at left). He added that his ride was fast and had good handling. Meanwhile, UB.compro Matt mattg1983 Graham revealed his car of choice: “2007 BMW 335i, but about to trade it in and get a brand new F-250 diesel to tow a boat.” Fellow online poker star Ryan gutshtallin Welch has multiple vehicles, adding to the fun. He revealed, “Cars are my one vice..I have two right now. 2008 Infiniti G37S and I just bought a new 2010 Camaro. Have basically redone everything with it. New headers, cams, exhaust, air induction. Basically, befhawk and I would have a good race. 6speed OBV.”

Nashville native Blueberleez, who took down a Triple Crown in September, responded in the thread that he cruises Music City in a gold 2000 Ford Ranger. He described his American-made rig: “tons of scratches on the right side from a hit and run, and a really messed up back left fender from an accident last year. i just had the back fender popped out so it doesn't look so bad but it's pretty bad i have a built-in CD player so that's pretty sweet.”

Longtime PocketFives.com member Nat N 82 50 24 Arem, who lives in the Cayman Islands, posted a shot of his 2007 Infiniti G35 (pictured at left). He explained the difficulties of having to bring a car from the United States to the island nation: “I would have gone more baller but the big import taxes in Cayman forced me to keep the price down when I went car shopping in Miami.”

Others who responded included Frank Frank1The1Tank Calo (pictured at right), who relayed, “I have a 2006 VW Passat 2.0T atm. I'd like to buy a 2009 Audi A5 but cannot because the parking lot of my apartment is filled with the most retarded drivers ever who all have baller cars paid for by their parents. They literally do not care at all about smashing their door into your car when they're getting out.” His apartment complex recently became $52,000 richer after Calo won the Full Tilt Poker Sunday Mulligan in November, his largest online poker cash to date.

Not everyone was quick to label someone else a baller. Ryan bef99hwk Befort, who hails from Kansas, cautioned: “FWIW, the car does/doesn't mean you are baller. There are people who are ballers, ones who have money and just like nice things, and imitators. So, you got Ivey who is truly a baller, some dude who just buys fancy things so it helps his image, and then others who, if they have extra money, might go luxurious just because that's their taste.” Befort, by the way, owns a 2007 Corvette.
