The May 24, 2007 version of the PocketFives Podcast features an interview with Will “CutiePi314” Ma, who won the Grand Prix of Paris for over $500,000.

Will Ma first made headlines in early 2007 when he captured the top spot on the PokerStars tournament leaderboard. This young poker star, who is currently living in Canada, won his first ever live tournament by taking down the Grand Prix of Paris in May 2007 at the age of 18. Will is a pure math major at the University of Waterloo who plans on continuing his education despite his half-million-dollar score.

When asked if he had any trouble sleeping the first few nights after your win, Will replied, “I didn’t get a lot of sleep during the tournament. The night when it was over, I slept quite well but during the tournament I was really excited and nervous. I was sleeping five to six hours per day. I was certainly very nervous during the tournament. I couldn’t believe that I had so much money under my control.”

A native of the country of China who grew up in Finland. “In China where I was born, the living conditions weren’t very good. It’s very crowded and you don’t have all the luxuries that you do in Canada (where Will currently lives). Finland I think is pretty similar to Canada. They have a slot machine in almost every convenience store and have a lot fewer restrictions on gambling and poker.”

Will’s first poker experience came during a camp he attended with PocketFives member Mike “Timex” McDonald (pictured). He states that a few friends got together one evening and watched “Timex” take down his very first online event, a $2 tournament.
