Day seven of 888poker’s XL Inferno brought out all the high rollers. There were three tournaments on tap, including the biggest buy-in tournament of the entire schedule – the $2,600 High Roller with a $200,000 guarantee.Of course, with some of the largest buy-ins of the series also come some of the biggest payouts. Twelve players added five-figure scores to their bankroll while another 17 entrants walked with four-figures.
XL Inferno is now officially past the halfway point. The next time players are likely to see prize pools this big again will be during the $1,050 buy-in $1,000,000 guaranteed Main Event which takes place on the final day of the Championship Series, May 20.
Event #16 – $200,000 High Roller
If any of 888poker’s biggest players were hanging on the sidelines during XL Inferno, the $2,600 buy-in $200,000 guaranteed High Roller was sure to bring them out. And bring them out it did, 84 players and their 47 rebuys helped destroy the guarantee and augment the prize pool to $327,500. This easily made it the biggest tournament of the series thus far.
Along with the largest prize pool comes the biggest winner of the series to date as ‘MisterN411’ from the Netherlands took it down for $90,062. There were some pretty big pay jumps in the final four as ‘MisterN411’ earned nearly $30,000 more than ‘trino11’ who finished as the runner up for $60,587.
PocketFiver Tomi ‘wellyxx’ Brouk from Finland will use his fourth place prize of over $31,000 to propel himself to over $6 million in lifetime earnings. The current Worldwide #50-ranked player Doug ‘OU_dlanger610’ Lang made a deep run, bowing out in sixth place for just over $17,000.
Also of note: the current #1-ranked player in the world ‘C Darwin2’, playing under his 888poker screen name ‘Isildur1337x’, min-cashed the High Roller for $8,187.
Event #17 – $100,000 Mini High Roller
413 players and their 232 rebuys helped increase the Mini High Roller’s prize pool to $129,000.
The Netherlands scored their second victory of the day as ‘I__AM_ZLATAN’ bested the field and took home $24,755 for the win. PocketFiver ‘CalmRevolver’ finished in second place adding $18,382 to his $1.3 million in lifetime earnings.
A number of other PocketFivers earned four-figure scores in the Mini including former top-50 ranked ‘jadedjason’ from Canada who finished in sixth for $5,482. Russia’s ’Ti0373’ (7th), Luis ‘eduardogarla’ Garla (8th) and Kim ‘Chipsssssss’ Deeker (9th) all made their way to the final table of this one.
Event #18 – $30,000 Late High Roller
The Late High Roller saw another 181 entrants and their 79 rebuys create a healthy $39,000 prize pool. The tournament sped to a finished, awarding all the prize money in just over 6 hours and 30 minutes.
The Late tournament saw even more PocketFivers reaching the final table as Russia’s ‘kassigor’ booked the win for $8,385. He defeated ‘GangstaGo’ denying the Ukranian a second XL Inferno championship and the $1,000 bonus that would have went with it. ‘GangstaGo’ has now finished in each of the top three spots, including his victory in Event #4. For his runner-up performance in this tournament, he added another $6,045 to his XL Inferno haul.
Former Worldwide #1-ranked player TJ ‘petitetete’ Ulmer from Canada finished in sixth for $1,950. Ulmer adds that to his already impress $9.1 million in lifetime earnings. Finally, PocketFiver ‘Tydarax’ from Germany wrapped up his tournament in ninth place for $780.
888poker’s XL Inferno continues on Wednesday with three 8-Max tournaments and another $80,000 in guarantees up for grabs.
