Get caught up with the early results from the 888poker's 2020 XL Inferno.

The first weekend of 888poker’s XL Inferno championship series is in the books as online players turned out in force to battle for a piece of the over $1.5 million in guaranteed prize money.

It should be no surprise to discover that each of the series’ tournaments to date has crushed their posted guarantee giving players at every level more than ample opportunity to pad their bankrolls. Thought 13 events, $609.043 in total prize pools have been awarded, more than $132,000 above the posted guarantees.

Early Action

The series started off with always popular $109 Opening Event. For 2020, the XL Inferno Opening Event got a guarantee boost up to $75,000 but it wasn’t enough for the 636 players (and their 242 rebuys) that pushed the prize pool to $87,800. In the end, Sweden’s ‘MorayEEEEEL’ took home the XL title and $16,585.42 first-place prize. Right behind them was Romania’s ’noneda’ who finished as the runner-up and claimed $12,028.60 for their efforts. ‘Knaber666’ fell in third place but walked away with $8,867.80.

Another early highlight came in the form of Event #4 ($55 buy-in, $30,000 PKO). The prize pool swelled to $44,900 as 668 players (230 rebuys) threw haymakers in search of an XL title. Romania’s ‘FishTankHero’ emerged as the winner grabbing $4,209.49 for first place and another $2,970.29 in bounties for a total score of $7,179.78. Romania dominated the final table, with five of the final nine hailing the country.

The spotlight tournament of the first weekend was Event #10 ($109 buy-in, $150,000 Tune Up). The Tune Up is traditionally one of the biggest events on any given XL schedule and, like the Opening Event this year, it received a big boost to the guarantee, $50,000 to be exact, to make it even bigger. Players seemingly couldn’t pass up the opportunity to turn a $109 buy-in into a five-figure score as 1,137 runners (478 rebuys) helped 888poker best the increased guarantee with a prize pool of $161,500. Finland’s ‘MuckFest’ took down the title and the $28,230.20 first-place prize, the largest series score of the weekend. ‘ALLCasH90’ grabbed second place and $20,510.50 for their efforts while longtime 888poker grinder ‘GramNaKartke’ landed the bronze and $15,342.50 for their bankroll.

What’s Next for XL Inferno

More marquee tournaments are on the horizon for XL Inferno starting with the $100,000 High Roller which takes place on Tuesday, May 18. Immediately after that, the bounty hunters will have six straight PKO tournaments to enjoy including the $50,000 PKO 8-Max, the largest bounty tournament on the schedule.

Then it’s the $250 buy-in $500,000 Gtd Main Event which takes place on Sunday. Early registration for the tournament indicates that it will, once again, be one of the biggest events that 888poker holds all calendar year with players getting a shot at a first-place prize that closes in on six-figures.
