And so i ended up batting 2 of 10 tonight for both of my sessions for Saturday. It's funny because while people were outside enjoying themselves; I was at the poker table grinding. In the end i know all of the hard work and my dedication will pay off; As a lot of times like now you begin to question your decisions in life. I was lucky enough to take advantage of having Saturday and Sunday off of work for a change. So i really wanted to try to take advantage of this time by playing a bit more. The upside to all of this, is that i played pretty well in my 9 man turbos today. The downside is that i got semi-deep in a few MTT's where i took some crucial beats after playing pretty solid poker.
Today i really hope that i am able to run better for a change; As for a while i have been the victim of varaince. With most of this coming from the fact that i was playing a high varaince style in games that don't require it as much. Although i mainly play low buy-in MTT, i still find myself out leveling myself in the lower buy-ins. The Smaller Hotrunner has been quite a task at this time and i hope to get some points today. IcurazedmyBB seems to be quite the MTT'r; As i always see him deep with a huge stack whenever we are at the same table. Also donkiman who is also in the smallerhotrunner has been getting deep every night so far. I really need to stay focused when i get deep today, because i ran into several spots last night where i really hurt myself deep.
Something that i will have to address today is not to gamble so much when i have an avg stack deep in MTT's. I have to remember that while i am short stacked by thoery; Usually on Merge 20bb's is plenty to make a run to a FT once in the money with about 4 tables to go. I have to be more of a grinder in my late game, and attempt to not be so aggressive late. Obv i am not going to play passive if not at all, but i truly need to tone it down a bit in my late game play. I am not much of the nitty type of player; And today that really cost me in a BvB situation today where i cashed in 15th place. I pretty much had chips in hand to FT, but decided to get cute and jam on the chipleader with T7o blind vs. blind and paid for it!
It was also cool to meet a few grinders that actually read what i am writing in my blog LOL. This is very motivational to me to say the least; And really pushes me to play as solid as possible at the table. Today i found a really good balance of opening and shoving with certain stack sizes. It's pretty much an unconventional balancing act, but it's working like a fucking charm. I noticed how players are really having a hard time putting me on a hand. And most of the time when they jam i bust them LoL. The 34/17 guys were really trying me last night, and for the first time in a while; I really felt like i owned the tight passive last night. I ended up stacking or firing three bullets/jam river to get folds from the loose and passive today.
One of my biggest improvements of the day, was knowing when to take advantage of my blockers. Usually i would just open hands at will without really considering player type. But for the past week i have really been using my blockers and broadways to my advantage. Lastly i have really been wanting to get a skype group together for serious grinders who work a 9-5 like myself. I am very interested in going over HH's via skype and teamviewer as well with a few new and old friends here. Anyone who grinds small stakes who needs a little advice; Should hit me up via onlinepokersyndicate.com(skype) on Skype. I am not the best player in the world, but i know how to get deep in MTT's and handle myself once i am there. I have been coached by the likes of Tford/Roberts34/Cracker9ball/Alex Oneil and Muckitfish just to name a few; So i think i have plenty of shit to bring to the table.
