1. I'm trying to setup inventory control on a pos, which is fairly straightforward. However, when I test add an item to a bill, it does not lower the inventory count. Maybe it only subtracts it when the bill is actually charged? I can't really test that right now as the place is open and active. Is my assumption here correct, or should inventory be dropping as soon as its added to a bill? Granted, I suppose it could be highly dependent on the system. I'm not sure, trying to learn as I go.

Yeah, bar/restaurant in Saigon upgrading from paper. We're all clueless, but I'm the most tech savvy of the bunch, so I'm just going with the flow. Never worked in this industry before, though. The business has been around for about eight years, so I'm sure it'll all work out.

I suppose it all depends on the intake. In Vietnam, the word "piece" in this context doesn't really apply.

I sent him a pm and he responded not only with the answer I sought, but also the meaning of life and the universe. Would highly recommend. My life is forever changed.

Then I read this, about it being a restaurant. What POS system are you using? When you say it’s not removed from inventory, do you mean like items with a countdown on them because of low stock?

Otherwise, I’m confused, I’ve never worked in a restaurant where the POS tracked inventory. The exception would be pre-packaged/retail items (bottled wine, merchandise, etc.). Inventory in every restaurant I’ve worked in, ever, is done by counting manually and checking variances by running velocity reports.

If you ring up a steak dinner with two sides, does your system reduce your steak inventory by 1 unit, and the sides by 1 unit each? Is EVERYTHING pre portioned? Otherwise, the inventory number you get from the POS is virtually useless. It doesn’t account for waste, theft or people just being incompetent.

We're using an Ocha system (seems to only be in Asia). Yes, I mean stock countdown. There will certainly still be manual counts I'm sure, this just supplements it for easy checking at any given time.

Just using it for drinks at the moment (cans, bottles, etc..). I'm not fucking with the food until I speak with the owner as I had the same concerns. Although, I think he does portion most of his stuff. I don't know, before the owner left for his second job tonight, he just asked me to take a look at it and try to figure it out, so I'm just winging it.

  10. Having not used a pos in 10 plus years, I’d say that it only subtracts once an item is purchased. Why would it if you haven’t sold it yet?

Sorry, haven't updated this but I figured it out. Yeah, it only updates once the bill is closed out.

yeah, in most systems it won't reflect in inventory until the auto batch or manual batch has run.

  23. Gotta run the batch man. Got many texts from the night managers asking me to run the batch for them bc they were too drunk when they left work and knew I got there at 4am to light the fires. They typically left at 3am. Fucking batch reports man.
