1. probably relocating in a few months, I'm looking to explore somewhere new. I am open to any suggestions, a few things that are gong to weigh in:

Cost of getting there and setting up, I'll probably have ~1500 to my name, I don't mind being broke and homeless for a few weeks until I get on my feet, but I'd like to be able to arrive there and have a few hundred dollars to get by for a couple weeks

amount of english spoken, I am not worried about being fluent, I just want there to be some percentage of people who will be able to communicate with me until I pick up enough words to get a shit job and locate drugs and prostitutes

ease of access, I hate filling out forms and shit, I'm sure I'll have to get a green card or something, but a place like new zealand is out because I've heard it's a pain in the ass to move there and get a job.

Poker, I plan on eventually getting a job doing some cooking, but it's always nice to be able to fall back on gambling, so a place with casinos is a plus

as of now I'm leaning towards SE asia, but that is only because I am ignorant about the world outside of this country and it is the most talked about destination.

    any tips appreciated

  7. I have relocated from NY to : Las Vegas, Dallas, Toronto and Tampa.

I strongly suggest you build more of a bankroll before moving somewhere with no connections.

Come to Upstate NY and crash on my couch for the summer, it will be fun and I promise not to rape you when you pass out.

I hear you, I'm no stranger to moving to a place with no connections and a small bankroll. I'm sure it will be tougher with the language barrier but I've become pretty adept at hitting the ground running.

Crashing on the couch sounds pretty solid apart from the lack of rape, but I'm bored with moving around this country.

  12. Thailand is the obvious choice. I don't know how easy it will be to get a cooking job but I bet it could be done and there are lots of great restaurants in Bangkok. You could probably find a teaching job easy.

  13. Man I saw Zepp as last replied and was like oh fuck this gonna be epic about some weird fucking place no one in there right ming would want to visit let alone move, but Thailand sounds about right with your current budget.

  14. To OP:

I understand boredom, and would join you in a quest, but I am not allowed out of the USA anymore.

Ok, I will rape you 3x a week, come stay? (hmmmmmmmm)

I have full confidence in your abilities, lack of bankroll. I showed up to college with 80 bucks and found 2 jobs in the first 24 hrs. I used a towel as a towel and a blanket.

Run Goot and best of luck.

  16. Philippines are still cheaper than Thailand and just as nice, scenery wise, with tons of chicks who would all love to marry an American.

  17. PI is only country in SE Asia I have never been to along with East Timor. I think it would be the only other option along with possibly Vietnam but Vietnam is definitely harder than Thailand visa wise. Do you think it would be easy to get a job in PI?

    (option in Asia that is)

Ha Most epic place I could think of that would be truly awesome and is potentially doable is Pokhara, Nepal. One problem is Nepal is expensive to get to. Pretty limited with $1500. To go to Thailand could afford plane ticket and easily a months living, 2 if you really tried to give time to find a job and could always fall back on teaching English. Thailand is possible and a great place to live/hang out for an extended period of time

  25. Just doing a quick search on a flight from NC to London the cheapest flight I saw was $990. I don't fly internationally so maybe there are different flights but that's what I found.

Edit: That's round-trip, so I guess a one way would be doable.

  26. yeah, he only needs one way which should be under $700 to Bangkok from NYC and leaves him with $800 if he started with $1500. That is more than enough for a month in Thailand if on a budget.

  28. i am heaviily considering doing the same thing in Aug. I already bought a ticket to San Jose, Costa Rica for 180 bucks from ORD (Chicago) Non-Stop. I will either work there or if i decide on another location ill visit for a bit. Also considering Belize as well. I am applying for a holiday work visa to NZ as well as its free. There are other countries where the same visa for 18-30 yr olds can be gotten. I have a friend in singapore now and she sent me a job that if I want it I can take it doing landscape architecture through SE ASIA..i would travel alot to India, Thailand, Bangalore, etc but could save money and see places. I set August bc my lease is up, my job contract is up etc. Plus it gives me time to save. since jan 5th i've saved around 700 towards my goal. i am paying off CC so I have 0 balances when i leave in Aug. BOL op, the sacrifices i am doing now will be outweighed by the experiences later..

  29. The answer is Spain. Try out the Spanish Mediterranian area or Barcelona...both are hard to top.
1500$ may not be enough but if you can manage it , you'd love it.
