Awkard 15 bb stack near bubble facing minraise pre and small bet postflop

Not sure if I played this hand correctly or not. We were right before the bubble, utg+1 (with 10bb stack) minraises, folds around to me in the big blind and I call with 97o (getting 3.75:1 on call).

-->At this point, I figure the short stack is going to push a lot of flops with air and if I hit the flop at all there is a good chance that I am going to be good and take down his stack.

Flop comes JJ9 with two spades, villain bets 800 into flop of about 2550. I push (effectively raising him his remaining 2800 and putting him all in). Rationale was I don't think I can fold as it is unlikely that the board hit his hand, don't want to smooth call and allow him to draw at a flush/get a chance to pair overcards/bluff shove turn if any scare card comes and put me to a scary chance. So pushing seemed like the best option.

Naturally, he tables a Q-J and I lose the pot.

Few questions:

1) Should I have called the minraise preflop from the big blind? Realize my hand was nowhere near premium, but the odds seemed quite good.

2) Assuming I do call, what would have been the optimal way to play the turn?
