**Official World Cup 2014 Qualification Thread**

Final round of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup starts today. Big game for the United States as we head to Honduras. While the friendly we played against Canada last week didn't feature many of the teams regulars, it was still probably the worst game I have ever seen and is a bit worrying. Would love to get qualification off to a good start tonight.

Today's games:

United States @ Honduras 4pm ET

Costa Rica @ Panama 9pm ET

Jamaica @ Mexico 9:30pm ET

Unfortunately I don't think the US game is televised today.

US Lineup: Howard; Chandler, Cameron, Bocanegra, Johnson; Williams, Jones, Bradley, Zusi; Dempsey, Gomez

3 points please!

As far as I know this is the last round. 6 teams in our group. Top 3 make it to the WC.

We play all 5 teams, top 3 advance. This is the first games of the round.

more info for the casual followers please? how many games do we have left? who would we play next? I see we need 3 points...

I am pretty sure we play the other 5 remaining teams home and home. Meaning this is the first of 10 games. I could be wrong about that. The top 3 teams of the 6 remaining from CONCACAF make it to the WC. Going into Honduras and winning will not be easy. I didn't see the Canada friendly (or even the result), but I'm not shocked to hear we played poorly.

So this is definitely not a win or go home situation. Would still calm the nerves if we pulled out a W.

oh, and the game is being televised - on a new station called beIN sports. It has the rights to all US games. Most people don't get it, but fortunately I do. Kinda sucks

Bats has it right -- home and home with the remaining 5 teams.

Our next games are home to Jamaica on March 22nd, and away to Mexico on March 26th. I think Mexico is certainly the best team in the region, and a slow start vs Honduras, and facing Mexico away early could leave us in a bit of a hole. Big game today.

Wait did Canada beat (or tie, or lose by just a goal) the US in a soccer game? Can Canada qualify for the WC errrrno?

Canada and the US both played reserve(mostly) line-ups in a friendly last week that ended in the most boring 0-0 in the sports history. Canada have already been eliminated from World Cup contention - time to go hop on that Germany bandwagon ;-)

I'm assuming there will be streams available, but unfortunately I don't think ESPN is able to televise the games that are away from home. Think the Mexico game will be televised tonight though.

Haha, sounds awful, but has to be a small victory for Canada. Didn't figure they'd qualify so yeah, Germany ftw...except Klinsmann coaches USA. Soccer is weird.

Okay, so I found it. I just dont have a subscription to the channel. Its on a network called BeIN. Its like 726 or something close to there on Comcast.

Only DirecTV, Comcast, and DISH have the channel. But I assume that pretty much no one actually is subscribed to it.

Thats the only part I never understood about international sports. Why dont coaches have to be from the same country as well? As far as I know, its not just soccer that is this way either.

Yeah the match is on BeIN or w\e its called, nobody has it really. Hopefully firstrow will have a feed, I tried watching a feed of us in Jamaica during last round and it was awful.

And yeah everyone plays home and away round robin so its 10 matches from now until October I believe. Top 3 of the 6 teams auto qualify for the WC and the 4th place finisher plays a home and away playoff against a team from Asia or Oceania or something so its technically 3.5 spots up for grabs.

We are around even odds on sportsbooks with win loss or draw betting. Also a bigger wtf at this being played at 4pm

lol @ djg talking shit about soccer when it's your national sport and it's barely an after-thought here.

oh and how long has it been since England has done something significant in the World Cup, anyways?

well, they finished behind us in the last world cup when we were in the same group. That's significant, right?

Like anyone actually thinks the WC is the biggest tournament now. Players don't give a shit, it's all about club success. Champions league>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>world cup

300 million world wide watch the last Champions League final.

700 millions watch the World cup final.

Id still say the WC has a slight edge in being the biggest.

I just hope they come out of there alive. Honduras soccer fans are crazy, to the point of rioting whether they win or lose. And Apparently today's game was big enough to be declared a national holiday in their country.
