MontyBurnsss - Journal / Thoughts / Advice / Growth etc

Question

Hi and thanks for reading my thread.

I thought it best to post a thread introducing myself if I wanted to ask for advice and post here in future so hear it goes. I am 29 from Wiltshire UK and I have been playing poker for around 6 months.

I am a negative ROI player - although I have cashed multiple micros I am still negative. I dont want to play zynga as the emotional attachment to the money is not the same and I would not learn whatsoever and it would not hold my attention. More than happy to continue playing small stakes as long as I am starting to move in the right direction.

I have recently played a lot of tournaments and have cashed pretty high up the tables with a fair few top 100 finishes which you can see on my profile. But nothing major just yet.

I get the variance bit and I can cope with the beatz which do come thick and fast but I have recently started to tighten up my game and it is starting to pay off as I have cashed in multiple tourneys this week. However I am still Negative ROI overall.

I am probably playing to many, i play one at a time maybe two, and if i bust ill play another etc.

I have got Jivaro and my average Vpip/PFR/AFQ is in the 24/19/40 range and I am playing more and more in position everyday and I feel like im starting to read the tables stack sizes with more thought before I click the button.

I would like to post a few hands that I play over time to I guess, journal it and have somewhere that I can reference my hands all in one place.

any advice/criticism is more than welcome. Its all a lesson to me. Ive read so much on here already so thank you for giving me some reading material.

All the best

If the above hand was for advice, it's better to post the hands you got stuck in or think you may have played badly rather than the braggy ones.

Best of luck with this!

Honestly im not! I have some really crap plays at times and they will for sure be here to be seen. Just looking for advice all round on good and bad plays etc. Admire the 100K badge 100%

Im trying to find some hands in my hand history that ive had trouble now, so many bad ones its hard to filter the ones i could real help with :/

What im finding hard is the variance. I get the fact the cards fall however they want to fall, many of the hands I play I do think twice about how ive got into that situation in the first place and lost chips and other times I do feel like ive made a good play at the time.

The two above are times that ive made chips in a tourney and ive thoughts ..."im a lucky bastard" so in the long run and with my current ROI its an on going loser at moment.

Is it just a case of putting in the man hours and volume to cancel out the suckouts? I get the math and the card equity etc but a lot of the time I do feel like i get lucky to chip up.

Its obviously hard to explain in one hand. Ill post as I go and try to explain why I think i donked my chips etc in certain spots.

And late stage feels a lot as if its just ship it on feel with card strength/equity/position/villain stack in mind?

I feel like i understand it from so much tv and books but why cant i execute it. Its frustrating at times. I dont play 2NL.

Hand 1: 3bet preflop to maximize your value of your hand. As player donk lead the flop, the hands is not good enough to check/call or check/raise but just about right to donk lead. As played it is a spew, as on micro stakes I don't expect many bluffs, okay you were right just this single time, but the next 9 times you will be losing money. Now leading the turn you do not really rep anything, but villain may well have a Jx or Tx in his range which you can fold out by the river if you donk lead the flop.

Hand 2: Fold preflop. A9s is just not good enough against an overall range of cards when there is a limp, raise and all-in. In most cases your Ace will not be a pure out.
