WWE No Mercy 2017

Recommended Posts

Feels like it's been a while since a WWE event (Summerslam?). For reasons probably related to their ratings going in the tank, or because Vince is getting senile (seniler?), this is actually a pretty stacked event with two matches that easily could be Wrestlemania matches. But as always, we got a lot of filler as well. This is a RAW brand show BTW...Hell in a Cell is in a few weeks and will be the next Smackdown show.

No spoilers, no odds - going to try and do a "should happen/will happen" thing for these matches.

Pre Show: Elias (they've dropped the Samson) vs. Apollo Crews - because they needed something on the pre-show.

Should happen: they should pick which lower card guy they want to push and have them win.

Will happen: they should pick which lower card guy they want to push and have the other guy win on Raw tomorrow night.

Finn Balor vs. Bray Wyatt: they are doing this match again after what should have been the blow off at Summerslam, basically because both guys don't have anything better to do.

Should happen: Balor is the guy who should be nearer the main event, while Wyatt really needs a new direction or reboot.

Will happen: They've been trading wins, Balor won at SS, so Wyatt wins this match.

Cruiserweight Championship: Neville © vs. Enzo Amore: Enzo is apparently not well liked backstage, but he moves merchandise and the fans seem to like him. Neville had a nice streak going as champ, but they hotshotted the title to Tozawa and then back to Neville. Enzo does some great promos, but he's been made to look like shit in the ring (because...he's shit in the ring).

Should/Will happen: Enzo gets a few hope spots in, but this should and will be an extended squash for Neville.

Raw Women's Championship: 5-woman match: Alexa © vs. Nia Jax vs. Emma vs. Sasha Banks vs. Bayley - originally was going to be a 4-way match, but Bayley came back earlier than expected from a shoulder injury so she was added to the match. Feel bad for Mickie James because she's only active woman on the Raw roster not in this match. BTW - Paige is back and training and might return in a few months (to Smackdown). Asuka is also rehabbing and will be on Raw - so whomever wins can expect to lose the title to Asuka when she does debut.

Should happen: Nia Jax's best match was against Asuka in NXT. She's been made to be dominant but hasn't won the title, so I think giving her a brief run with the title would make sense.

Will happen: Alexa retains - she ends up stealing a victory as Nia hits a Samoan Drop on Emma, Alexa shoves her out of the ring and gets the win.

WWE Tag Team Championship: Rollins/Ambrose © vs. Sheamus/Cesaro - this should be a really good match as these are evenly matched up teams. At some point, maybe not tonight, Rollins and Ambrose are going to fight each other again. Ambrose recently "forgave" Rollins for his turn against the Shield from 3 years ago. But I think that Ambrose will turn on Rollins as a payback (and as a way for Ambrose to turn heel to give him something new to do).

Should/Will happen: close matchup, lots of false finishes, but Rollins/Ambrose retain.

IC Title: The Miz © vs. Jason Jordan - Miz has been the most consistent performer on the mic and in the ring for months now and deserves better. But while I'd like to see him get a shot in the main event, I also think it's great for him to be the anchor of the mid-card with so many upper-card guys on Raw. Meanwhile, Jordan as Angle's son thing is just not working. This "angle" needs to progress and it might be with Jordan snapping at some point after continually losing so many of his singles matches.

Should/Will happen: Miz and the Miztourage cheat to get a win.

Roman Reigns vs. John Cena - "free agent" went to Raw to look for a fight with Reigns and whatever Cena wants, Cena gets. They've been battling on the mic mostly, with Cena just pwning Reigns in their promos. Not much to add to this other than Cena has plans to do more movies and TV shows. Should be a solid match, and John Cena might be cheered more than he has in years (as people just dislike Reigns that much).

Should happen: Reigns should win since Cena is going to be taking time off (again) and to establish Reigns as the #1 guy who appears weekly on Raw.

Will happen: I think Cena pulls off a bit of an upset which causes Reigns to snap and "take out" Cena after the match, turning Reigns full heel and giving Cena his out to do his movie/TV thing. If it doesn't happen tonight, it will happen tomorrow night.

WWE Universal Championship: Brock Lesnar © vs. Braun Strowman - man, the fans are behind Strowman so much right now. He's an impressive big man (very agile, good technical skills along with being perhaps the strongest guy on the roster). The problem is Lesnar and Vince. Vince apparently thinks that Lesnar should be holding the title until next Wrestlemania and that Reigns will be the one to take the title off of him in a "passing of the torch" moment.

Should happen: Strowman wins. Lesnar is on a limited appearances contract and he's been on TV and PPVs quite often lately, so they need to save some dates and have him disappear for a while (say until the Royal Rumble)

Will happen: Lesnar cheats to win or a double DQ/count-out finish - they need to protect Strowman, but I don't think Vince strays from his master plan. Lesnar can still disappear for a while because they've done it before.

So that's it for now.

I think Heyman turning on Brock would be a great angle. It won't happen for Somoa Joe because Vince doesn't like Joe. He's an eye sore as far as physique and he can hold his own on the mic. Vince is high on Braun so I could see Heyman trading sides and building a ton of heat.

Turns out that Cesaro didn't officially lose his two front teeth (yet). They were partially chipped and were shoved 3-4mm back into his upper jaw. Apparently he will need to have the teeth removed and will have to have some implants made. He also got a standing ovation backstage from the entire crew for finishing the match without missing any significant action, taking all of the normal beatings that he was expected to take.

Quick bump (no new thread) for the PPV tonight - Hell in a Cell. This PPV is such a waste given the no-blood policy in place (except if you are Vince who took a head butt from Kevin Owens and bled a few weeks ago to help set up the Shane/Owens match).

Pre-Show: Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable vs. Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley - Ryder and Rawley are about to split up, should happen here. Who turns on who? Who cares.

Orton vs. Rusev - Rusev deserves better, Orton is mailing it in - Who cares (sense a theme?)

Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler - Roode recently promoted from NXT, is a better heel and is being booked as a vanilla babyface. Ziggler is trying to reinvent himself by acting disgruntled by mocking how people are getting over with gimmicks and entrances. Roode has a "Glorious" entrance - don't be surprised if Ziggler mocks him with his own "Glorious" entrance. Otherwise - who cares.

US Title: AJ Styles © vs. Baron Corbin - there's been a decent feud involving these two along with Tye Dillinger (don't be surprised he gets involved). Corbin was recently punished because he spoke up during a talent meeting with regards to concussions. Apparently the WWE didn't know that Corbin is part of the player lawsuit against the NFL with regards to concussions. I wouldn't mind a title change here as AJ should be part of the main event scene.

Women's Title: Natalya © vs. Charlotte Flair - Natalya's reign has felt like a transitional reign - moving the title to a face (Charlotte) and then having heel Carnella chase her with her women's MITB contract. Charlotte wins (probably), but the question is does Carmella try to cash it in. I say no - they drag this out a bit longer.

WWE Championship: Jinder Mahal © vs. Shinsuke Nakamura - Jinder has cut some very offensive promos (like the whole "L" vs "R" Japanese speech thing). Ratings are down, show attendance is down - but dammit Vince is not going to take the title off of Mahal before their December tour of India. Word is though - India does not hold Jinder in high regard (Great Khali is though - go figure). I could see Nakamura win the title, see how things go, and then put the title back on Mahal before that December tour. Will not be a good match.

HIAC Match 1 - Tag Championship - New Day © vs. Usos - these teams have actually been having some of the best matches in the WWE the past few months, and perhaps some of the best tag matches in the WWE in years. This will be the match of the night - guaranteed.

HIAC Match 2 - Kevin Owens vs. Shane McMahon - train wreck, Shane tries to kill himself, Owens wins. Just enjoy it for what it will be.
