How do I constantly get knocked out like this?

Recommended Posts

jdameego101    10

Is this just standard poker or is something else going on.

Seems like I constantly get stacked in tournies when I'm ahead.

Out of the Last 10 Tourneys I've lost like this 5 times? Are these Standard?

My All in Equity Line is WAY ABOVE my actual results.

Over Past 15 Tournaments, Chips won says I should have won based on All in Equity a little over 30,000, im down 125000.

Welcome to tournament poker. More to the point, welcome to micro stakes. Got rather unlucky in some of these spots but the one that stands out to me is the first example. I just cannot fathom calling it off with A8s pre for a huge, huge stack (80bb's). At best you're like a 60/40 favorite here and perhaps not even that much. Close to flipping really and that's not what we want when all-in pre for huge stacks. Both shove and call are horrible but I'd say the call is worse. Flip, by all means, but not for 80bb's pre with a weak A. You could have easily ran into a pair or better A here (shouldn't be shoving anything of course but if villain is shipping Q9s then I'd imagine ATs is going in also. And pairs). Reduce risk and variance by playing better than these guys rather than trying to hero call, it's just way too volatile imo.

I had a run worse than that in the Big 3.30 a couple of days ago.  4 straight, money in ahead every time, busted out 200 from the bubble.   Good hands too.   I don't think I had worse than AQ off.   Any more I'm just getting sick of the whole thing.   I can see myself walking away real soon.

Gotta watch the cards because the sites are crooked.  I think it was the 11th.  Pokerstars was flush city.  I bet every fifth hand was won with a flush.  Tomorrow or the next day...   you'll play all day and never see one.  I don't trust the sites anymore.  They're set up to bust people out with bad beats and get them into a new game and a new rake.  That's what they do.  Skill means nothing anymore except maybe in the big games, I bet they don't do it quite so much.  The real big time players wouldn't stand for it.    But the micro guys, they don't care, they'll screw us ill the cows come home.

Absolute nonsense. It sounds to me like you're making excuses as to why you consistently fail to beat the lowest stakes MTT's available today. If you can't beat those stakes that means collusion or everyone is against you right? Wrong. It means you're not a good player at all and that is also evident by your vague whining about irrelevant spots in micro games.

"I bet every fifth hand was a flush" yeah, that means nothing and you know as well as I do that that's not true. Why don't you record a session and post it on the forum and show us all how good you are and that it's just PokerStars stopping you from succeeding? I'm serious, do it, why not? You're not going to because you know the truth and the truth is you don't work on your game nearly enough and are a massive tilter (yeah, it's THAT obvious). You guys are ridiculous with these posts. One dude crying having called off 80bb as a tiny favorite and losing and the other guy saying Stars is against him and every fifth hand was a flush. Nonsense.

I put it to you both, record a full session and post it somewhere for us to see. Show us that the world is against you and it can't be that you're playing stupidly high variance "strategies" that cannot last the duration in a tournament that has 3000+ players. I'll wager any amount that any player who works at their game regularly instead of whining will point out how bad your play is. The challenge is set, prove me wrong.

Good luck at the tables.

Flop.

You know flop deck, funny you say that, I actually did that in a sense a few days ago.  Right after I went on that run I was talking about.  I got put on a starting hand cooler like I always do when I get overly aggressive.  This is how it went down:

.2/.5 cash, 9 seat Feb 11

Some stats for the session:
201 hands dealt
Saw the flop 33 times out of 201(16%) and you're about to find out why that's so low
5 in bb
6 in SB
22 other
Pots won at showdown  - 6 out of 10(60%)
Pots won without showdown  - 23
I was mucked to in the BB 9 times.  So I won 20 out of 33 hands I actually played

I'm a guy who takes flops 30% of the time normally.  I like to see flops unless I'm on a cooler and I know all I'm going to do is lose.  Despite the cooler I managed to win 20 out of 33 flops I saw.  So don't even try to tell me I'm a shitty player.   These are the cards I got  in order from when I sat down to when I checked out at 201 hands.   If you don't believe me and you think I'm making all this up, because I like spending hours and hours just to punk people,  I shot screen capture video of my info box that shows all the stats and every hand I played and mucked.   You can see it all for yourself.

Just before I got started I busted out of the Big $3.30.  Caught three or 4 suck outs in a row about 200 before the bubble.   Had my money in ahead every time.  Just typical Pokerstars bullshit.   I never get the good end of that stick. Anyway, it doesn't start out too bad, but eventually I find myself on the cooler.  I knew as soon as it happened.  I'll show you where and how it happened.   First hand at the table,  K9 suited, not bad, caught a flush, won.

K9s, 82, q8s, T3, 72, KQ, 24s, T4, 53, A2, A8, A8, A2, 79, A5, Q6, AKs, K5, 23,T4,82,AT,AK,J3,33.73,K6,KT

I get dealt 5 hands with 2 cards jack or higher in the first 31 hands.   I was up maybe 1/3 a buy in.  I'll play 170 more hands and get 9 more.  1/3 of them I lose outright, 1/3 I have the nuts, 1/3  I just bluff the other guy off.  Because I'm cooler tight everybody is afraid I have a monster when I do play.

The cooler starts here:

(KK,94,T7,KJ,K4s,A6,75,76,J6)

That's where it started, what triggered the cooler.  I won a decent pot with pocket kings.  Then I played a whole bunch of muck hands back to back for various reasons.  I played almost every hand in that stretch, except the 75.  I was in good position, the raisers were weak and folded a lot post flop, BB was a folder to any bet without AK, connectors are always my weakness, it was cheap to get in.  I had my reasons.  I think I lost them all.  That's when the cooler started.  Pokerstars sees me play a bunch of weak hands in a row, 94, T7, K4, A6, 75, 76, J6.   I play them pretty crazy, calling raises and bluffing with air.  Pokerstars then knows I'll play with any worthless hand it deals me and happily bleed my chips off to everybody, and most importantly to their rake.  It's all about the rake.  They know I'm a good pot builder and rake earner for them when I get a little wild with muck hands.   I knew I was taking a chance while I was doing it.  I always get put on the cooler when I do that.  In the past sometimes I didn't know when to quit.  I'd just keep playing right into the cooler for hours and hours.  It wasn't five or 6 hands later I knew they'd done it to me.   This isn't the first time I've seen it.  This is what comes next when you're on the cooler at Pokerstars...   I start out flopping a big fat zero with AQ suited and lose about 8BB.  That's the first sign the cooler is on.

AQsLOSER,35,64,AT,24,QQ,78,K6,86,A5.33,54,65s,95,T9,94,52,J4,95,AT,J5,84,K3,54,Q7s,K6,87,J4,A4,T4,K3,64,T6,A4s,J7 KJ

Since losing with the Ace Queen suited, I have had 2 hands containing 2 cards higher than a Jack in the previous 30 hands.  We continue with another K3, watch how often that worthless hand gets dealt to me.  We're now up to 3 in 30 hands.

 K3,52,J9,kJs,J9,J5,J7,J3,86s,T8s,K5,A6,T6,93,33,83,AKLOSER,Q6,QJs,92,A6,54s,73,83.62,Q2,99,84,78,42,73,K7,T6,T6,QT,K6,67,K4,J5,A2,J3,J3,T3,63,T4,63,73,A5,AT,75,72,24,Q3,T7,Q7,J4,62,A6,AQ LOSER,

So I lose with AK, the only time I see ever see it.  Pick up a small pot with QJ then go 40 straight muck hands before losing with AQ again.  Then go 61 straight hands never seeing better than a pair of 8's.  Which I might have muscled somebody off with, or lost I can't remember.  It was a bad stretch.  I think I was watching funny cat videos on you tube most of the time, wouldn't you?  It continues...

Q2,96,74,K5,K9,T6,T2,86,95s,82,Q8,84,Q6,74,93,92,77,T5,Q5,J2,K2,T6,Q6,QT,J6,Q3,T6,85,T8s,J6,J5,JT,88,72,KT,J2,T3,Q4,92,64s,T3,Q7,T9,T5s,94,JT,94,T2,22,97s,Q2,47,K3,Q5s,T2s,K3,Q4,92,A7,A8,62,JJ,83,JJ,K5,J6,99,82

Finally pick up a couple of pairs of pocket jacks.  I think I flopped  trips the second time times.  That was the high point of the cooler, I got back about even and time to go.

The odds of being dealt 2 cards Jack and higher is 10 to 1 in real poker.  On the Pokerstars cooler... 19 to 1.  Everything else loses, and even the good hands lose most of the time.  That's what it's like to be on the cooler.   Only because I begin to show incredible muck discipline do I get dealt anything at all.  If I'd have kept on playing  J4.  I'd have been dealt 50 J4's.   It will deal you whatever muck hand you keep playing and losing with.

Some common hands I saw lots of while on the cooler:

When you're on the cooler you'll see the same muck hands over and over again.   It's like the muck Twilight Zone.  That's one of the ways you can tell.  Here are a few of them.   I was dealt AK once while on the cooler and lost with it.  I was dealt T6 seven times, K3 five times, 92, four times.   K3 is always a good indicator you're on the cooler.  When you see that one over and over, you're being coolered.   It's one of the hands that always seems to show up by the basket full.  You never get AQ five times when you're on the cooler, and if you did, all five would lose anyway.   That's what it's like to be on the cooler for those of you who might not have had the pleasure of experiencing it for yourself.  If I'm not careful, I'm on it every fucking day.   Just because I want to play a little bit loose at times.

Flop deck, you may know poker strategy, but on the subject of sites being rigged you know nothing.  You know what Pokerstars tells you, everything is on the up and up.  I keep stats.  let me show you one.   You know that BB is an unprofitable seat right?   everybody is - there.  You are forced to call with weak hands because you're already invested, and you rarely have position post flop.

Here's the numbers I've collected recently for showdown winners by seat.

SB 412
BB 649
UTG 303
4 257
5 260
6 272
HJ 316
CO334
BU 353

At Pokerstars BB is winning twice to 3X as often at showdown as any other seat, except SB, which is the second most profitable seat.   Showdown, that's where you see who got dealt the best starting hand.  I don't make these claims with nothing to back them up.  You saying it's all square, you're the one making claims with no evidence.

Pokerstars has the place set up so you're betting into a strong BB and SB and you're getting surprise beats on a regular basis.   It's the total opposite of what should be happening.   I know all about it... small sample...  variance....  I hear the excuses from everybody.  I'll collect 50,000 hands, it won't change.  Pokerstars is rigged.  It's that simple.   I'm watching for it and keeping the stats, you're not.  So keep your mouth shut on things you don't know anything about.

I got another one for you flop.   I've also been collecting winning hands.

Let's have a theoretical all-in showdown, you and me.  You're the chip leader because you're so good.  I'm a shitty player down to my last 10BB.  I throw all in.   You have K4, you don't like it but you call, You have a King, and you're the chip leader.  I can't hurt you.

I turn over QJ, you show your K4.  You're pretty happy, you're ahead.  You win that 56% of the time according to the math.  Me only 44%.   You smile, you know you just beat the donk.  Now here's what I know.   I look over at my chart...   in the last 6725 showdowns over about 20 or 25,000 hands of poker I've seen, K4 has won 16 times.  16 times at showdown in 20,000 hands.  QJ has won 184 times.  I'm smiling too because history shows that I'm an 11:1 favorite.   I'm keeping track, you're not.

That's just Pokerstars.   That's how the site makes money.  Every flop is an action flop.  Every board is a wet board.  Everybody at the table gets a piece of it.   It increases the rake, gets people out of tournaments and into new ones.

If you hadn't have caught top pair what would have happened?  Nothing.  You'd have mucked, and that was that.    Pokerstars did what it's designed to do.   That's why I always urge people to play with

caution, give the other guy credit post flop, because he's got it way more often than he doesn't.

Ask yourself, how many times out of 10 do you call one of those, and find it was a stone bluff or a semi-bluff?   Like what, 1 or 2 out of 10?   Closer to zero out of 10.  That's about the rate I run.   When you play at Pokerstars you throw your book of probabilities right out the fucking window because the site doesn't play anything like what the book says.   Believe people when they tell you the pot is theirs and put their stack behind what they say.

Finally got a little bit of good luck and ran pretty deep in my past two tournies, min cashed in one and 272nd in another.

Man feels good to have my hands holding up! 🙂

Also got super lucky in the min cash tourney. I was sucking out on people left right n center

I guess what goes around comes around. Want to win one of these soon.
